We want to say a special Thank you to Alternative Attic for making this happen for ALL of us. They spent about 700,00 hours creating this magic and we couldn't be more grateful.

We also want to give a shout out and thanks to Elizabeth Tipton creating such an awesome promo video for us this year, too! Thank you, Elizabeth!

We also want to say a special thanks to the local businesses that opened their doors to let us record the sets! Oakdale House, Square Records, Yoga Squared, Annabell's Bar & Lounge, @Zen Space by Yoga Squared and Mustard Seed Market & Cafe

It takes money and love and support and high fives and goodwill to make festivals happen, even virtual ones and this virtual CouchRokr couldn't have happened without the support from Akron Community Foundation, Fairlawn School of Music & Hudson School of Music, Platform Beer Co., Yoga Squared, Alternative Attic and a friendly neighborhood resident who loves to dance!

If you love PorchRokr (and CouchRokr) please consider a donation to Highland Square Neighborhood Association. Money donated goes back into our neighborhood with other festivals and initiatives. Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/HighlandSquare

Enjoy your day, friends! Let the dancing, singing, and rocking commence!

Today would have been EarthQuaker Day! 😭Check our this set from Party Of Helicopters live at Musica from last year’s EarthQuaker Day.
Ps- EQD has a sick pedalboard giveaway happening on their Instagram right now. Go take a look!

For posterity, we have uploaded the entire live set performed by The Party Of Helicopters at Musica on EarthQuaker Day IV, August 3rd, 2019. Watch it in its complete form here: https://youtu.be/8ZLGO5ZES2k

The Party Of Helicopters is a high energy multi-realmed rock n' roll outfit, established 1995 in Kent, Ohio. Years of touring, several releases, several vans, and two drummers have lead them to this point. This set contains songs from every era of the band, including a few yet-to-be released songs. Keep an eye out for new things on the horizon.

Independent music venues need your help. We were the first to close and we will be the last to open. Please take a minute to watch the video and visit saveourstages.com to take action.
Thank you from the bottom of our music loving hearts.

#SaveOurStages
The time is now to help save our beloved independent music venues.

Today, we are asking music lovers for a final push of letters to Congress -- there won’t be another opportunity. Visit SaveOurStages.com to TAKE ACTION. The mission of the NIVA - National Independent Venue Association is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States. Please help #SaveOurStages now.

Thank you!

The last time our doors were open was on March 7th. We don’t have a definitive answer on when the next time will be.
Independent music venues need your support now more than ever. We need the Save Our Stages Act for our industry to survive. Music venues were the first to close and will most likely be the last to open. Please support the venues you know and love by participating in and sharing the info below. We need this legislation to happen so we can make live music happen when safety allows. Thank you. ❤️

This Wednesday, August 5, 2020, join Ohio Citizens for the Arts and the NIVA - National Independent Venue Association to boost support of the Save Our Stages Act.

The Save Our Stages Act is a critical piece of federal legislation that would provide $10 billion for six months of financial support to keep live performing venues afloat and preserve an economic sector shuttered since mid-March.

Please engage with as many of the following action items as possible! Your voice matters and will go a long way in helping our federal elected officials understand that we depend on them to help save Ohio's arts.

✅ ACTION #1: SEND EMAILS

Email Senator Sherrod Brown and Senator Rob Portman and ask them to support the Save Our Stages Act. You can easily send a digital letter by visiting SaveOurStages.com. Use the pre-written text and add a personal message to let them know why it's essential to save Ohio's stages!

✅ ACTION #2: TAKE TO SOCIAL MEDIA

Please push these actions via your social media accounts, preferably between noon to 5 pm. Tag #SaveOurStages and #SaveOhioStages anywhere that you can, and follow those hashtags and share/RT messages from Ohio venues. Download and use our pre-made graphics (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7fhccsgkudpxaew/AABAWApnFI33BrCDeIGSDsyOa?dl=0) or create your own and include personal words and stories. Encourage your network to take action!

✅ ACTION #3: SHARE WITH LOCAL ARTISTS & INFLUENCERS

Contact every local artist and influencer you know and ask them to help promote this campaign. NIVA sent a letter to Congress signed by Coldplay, Lady Gaga, and Whoopi Goldberg. But, it's our local-borne talent that is affected the most. Let Senators Brown and Portman know that if they support Ohio's live performing venues, we will support them.

George Cabaniss passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. He was prolific with his contributions to punk history and was loved by everyone. George played guitar in Hammer Damage, Stiv Bators Band, The Bad Dudes, The Dead Boys, Village Idiots, and more. We were fortunate to host Akron’s Legendary Bank Nightclub Revisited 40 years on last August and it was one hell of a night.
These photos are from that night. Thank you for all of the music George. Blessings to your family and friends.

Let George Stay Home! organized by Meredith Cabaniss

Akron music legend!!!

George has had colon cancer since 2014 and has been through every chemo and radiation treatment available, no matter how invasive and no matter how many side effects. He has fought this cancer in every way imaginable. Now he needs to live his life on his own terms and stay at home.

George has been entertaining his whole life, with a long career in bands such as Kil Cooley, Hammer Damage, Color Me Gone, The Dead Boys, Stiv Bators Band, The Sodbusters, The Village Idiots, The Orange Ruffians , The Psyclones, Paper Crowns, Yankee, and The Bad Dudes. After a lifetime of making music and touring, all George wants now is to remain at home.

George has been annoying the neighbors for 45 years, don't let him stop now! Please think of the elders! Protect the nursing home elderly from his wild, musical antics and very nearly unfunny jokes!

George has had colon cancer since 2014 and has been through every chemo and radiation treatmen… Meredith Cabaniss needs your support for Let George Stay Home!

It’s going to be the weirdest summer we’ve had but we’re willing to give a lot of things up if it means everyone can stay healthy! ❤️

Highland Square Neighborhood Association and the Highland Square PorchRokr Committee have made the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s (in-person) PorchRokr event. We understand that this is a beloved festival in our community and we do not take this decision lightly, as it is EQUALLY upsetting for us to have to make this tough call. We hope you can understand that a lot of thought and consideration went into this decision and we believe we are doing what is best to keep our community safe, healthy and moving forward.

PorchRokr is a day where we proudly serve over 15,000 people, however this year we are unsure of what crowd restrictions may look like in August and we have been unable to properly interact and engage with our community and neighbors to plan this festival because of the current pandemic.

What this means moving forward:
-We ARE currently planning on a way to celebrate our neighborhood virtually. Stay Tuned!
-Bands will need to reapply in 2021
-Bands that have already applied, please check the email you’ve applied with for more information
-All vendors will be given a full refund
-Vendors will need to reapply in 2021
-Vendors that have already applied, please check your email for more information
-Sponsors, we will be getting ahold of you via email to discuss options
-We will remain in the same footprint for 2021

Music venues were some of the first to close and may be some of the last to open back up. Bars in Ohio are re-opening tomorrow. We don’t know what the future holds, but we have hope. We can’t wait to enjoy music and drinks together again at our place. Just not yet... 🧡

Remember Small, Sweaty Music Venues?

We miss the energy. We miss the friendships. We miss the sweaty nights. We miss needing earplugs. We miss the camaraderie of being in a crowd with each other and singing along. We miss making new friends with other drunk girls in the bathroom. We miss buying merch. We miss catching up with pals on the patio. We miss opening the garage door because it’s so hot. We miss our bartenders. We miss our sound guys. We miss our barback. We miss our friendly faces at the door. We miss all of the musicians. We miss you.

We don’t know what our future looks like, but we’re working on making it the best it can be when we are eventually and safely able to open back up!

The coronavirus has hit the underground music scene hard.
