When King of the Court was established in 1993 there were three great men who supported no questions asked, Akron natives Perry Johnson, Jerry Rowland and my long time mentor from Elyria via Oakland Robert Brown. Then there was this man Jerome Lane. We know about his teams winning championships at the tournament for 3-4 years, but it was the behind the scenes support he gave that allowed us to flourish. His willingness to give any way possible is unmatched. Respect due to one of the great ones from our city.

Our 2026 King of the Court Champions “Dynasty” led by Hall of Famer McNeal Thompson and two-time tournament MVP Aaron Nixon. Congratulations in order to this squad who won in convincing fashion.

The decision was unanimous, our tournament MVP was Aaron Nixon. This is the second time he has received this honor and it was well deserved. Leading his team Dynasty to an undefeated run to the King of the Court Championship and $10,000 Cash. A Cleveland native, A-Nix go ahead and take a bow 🫡

Our Hall of Fame Ceremony was a success. We were able to celebrate the legacy of Akron basketball in fashion that only King of the Court basketball could execute. It was a reunion with so many of Akron’s greatest hoopers. We appreciate everyone who attended.

As we reflect on the King of the Court tournament it is imperative that we acknowledge those key components of any basketball event officials and scorekeepers. Always good to have former Division 1 player in Scott Gooden and his crew officiating and our long time scorekeepers Tank Toler and Charles “Hub” Barnett. We are grateful for their support and the spirit in which they operate. Special shout out to Don Williams, Richard Mitchell, Ski Lawler and Ted Jones long time KOTC refs.

If you played in King of the Court you understand we were nothing without our referees and scorekeepers. Mess that score up it could get real crazy real quick. Shot you flip that score over too slow and it’s a problem. Them guys that handled that task over the years from Tank, to Haze yall know em. Birthday blessings to these two pictured Charles Barnett aka Hub and Kenny Sharpe who passed away recently your dedication and integrity to that legendary event at “The Pool” is appreciated.
