Please give a big welcome to our newest live-in Artist in Resident at Rubber City Prints, Melih Meric. Melih earned their Masters of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Print Media. They also earned a Bachelor's Degree in Printmaking and Drawing from Bennington College, where they also spent four years as the shop technician.
Melih was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. Expressing their identity as a q***r artist while keeping safe was a personal challenge. Melih accepted a scholarship to United World College Maastricht (UWC), a program that honors cultural differences and aims to make a sustainable future through celebrating diversity.

Melih's thesis focuses on caring for works on paper and assisting projects that involve alternative and sustainable printmaking processes. As a practicing printmaker and emerging artist, they have been working with fellow early career and established artists to realize print projects for a number of organizations and shows while being committed to green and non-toxic methods, alternative cleaning without spirits and zero waste solutions.

Melih's work has been internationally exhibited from Cologne, Germany; Nagoya, Japan; Istanbul, Turkey to New York City, USA. They were selected to exhibit in the juried Print Austin Contemporary Print show this year. In their most recent group show in Ferndale, Michigan, they have exhibited works that deal with displacement and using pattern as a gateway to understand a spiritual journey. Their practice questions and challenges multiple traditions in Islamic geometry and in printmaking itself. It contains alternative methods of printmaking and presents editions in stitched forms to create unifying imagery.

We are so excited to have Melih at our printshop and welcome them to the West Hill neighborhood. Melih is currently bringing new life to our studio space at Rubber City Prints!
Please follow their journey and stay tuned for upcoming workshops

Rubber City Prints Welcomes newest
Artist in Resident Jazmin Harkin, aka Kaz! We are so excited to have new life in our studio. Stay tuned for upcoming events!!

Jazmin is a recent graduate of Kent State University. During the Artist in Residency at Rubber City Prints, Jazmin will be exploring linocut, woodcut and continuing their experience with screenprinting on canvas. Recently, they finished an internship in papermaking at Morgan Conservatory in Cleveland, Ohio.

As a q***r and disabled artist, Jazmin spends their time working towards uniting others through heavily themed art with educational undertones. After many personal tragedies in their teenage years, they use art as a path to healing and to reflect on the way trauma affects every person individually. Jazmin creates thought-provoking images about PTSD and mental health awareness. They will be focusing on collaborative work with a community of people to investigate the way trauma is endured within the Akron community.

They love spending time with their family, younger siblings, partner, two cats, and their best friends. Jazmin loves to make pottery, reading, blowing glass, and screenprinting.

Please follow their art journey teeth.art

Contribute to KAZ journey with in kind support like ink, printmaking paper, paints, large sheets of fabric. Art supplies can be donated during open studio & community project hours any Tuesday at Rubber City Prints from 5-9 pm.

Remembering Marleana Michl- an amazing printmaker, member, intern, and friend 💓
"The Marleana Michl Foil Screenprinting Method '' In memory of Marleana, we will continue to teach her method of foil screenprinting.

Remembering Chris Paringer, our first volunteer, enthusiast, dedicated member, and amazing printmaker and collage artist! She was dedicated to making RCP thrive and helped support our very first Fine Art Print Exhibition "Color High" in Akron.

Remembering our true supporter, whom we are truly indepted to, Jack McWhorter, our hero, we lost unexpectedly earlier this year. We are starting a painting residency in honor of Jack McWhorter for all the work, support, and knowledge he has passed on to help build and develop artists into over the years. Jack McWhorter was essential to getting Rubber City Prints where it is today, and we will greatly miss our mentor, advisor, and friend.

Remembering Anthony Bartholomew, a wonderful printmaker and great friend. He was a crucial member and volunteer in the very beginning of RCP'S creation. He was so involved in the print world, and there's a residency in his honor for KSU grads at Zygote to this day!

Now, more than ever, women command the fine art printmaking field and deserve to have their unique perspectives showcased. The goal of this exhibition is to highlight women printmakers and give them a space to connect and support each other. Their voices may express a diverse range of imagery, content, and processes, but they are united by their shared experience of being a woman in the once male-dominated world of printmaking.
