The Brown Street Underground Theater was one place in Akron that people felt at home. An amazing group of people were pulled into the scene - like a vortex spinning out of control... Spinning and pulsating with the sounds of harmony. Brown Street Underground was one of those places that was the epitome of the vibes that people so desperately tried to find in life. The feeling of fulfillment and being connected to the other souls on this planet. With the ability to not only fulfill people in the sense of being part of the family but to fulfill people in the aspect of having some of that good old fashioned gut wrenching - heart felt - straight from the depths of our soul music being made and played. It was "the house that Dorrie built...." - but the man who made the scene come together and kept the peaceful vibes happening Friday after Friday was the incomparable Jimmy Shambo. It takes a man and a woman to create such a "child" but it truly took the whole village to raise it. If there is something to be said about the people that came over and created the music, those people that shared their most intimate feelings of their soul expressions through music.... It should be said that they were the ones (AND YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE) that set the pace of our lives. You are the ones who gave us the beat to dance our lives to. The ones that gave us the strength to continue on and keep the faith that life is more than what it may seem - although the world may have been falling apart outside the doors and you may have only had to look as far as the street- you knew - we all knew - that we were safe behind those walls. There is much to be said about what it all really meant... And I don't think that anyone can quite pinpoint what it really was in the big scheme of things, but I am sure that we can all agree that the man behind the curtains was sent from above to place his hand on our hearts and show us the true meaning of peace, love and good vibes. Jimmy was the magnet that pulled us together... The force behind so many people connecting on so many levels - the spider that created the web that we all got caught in. Blessed doesn't even come close to explaining what it was that happened to us in that basement when Willy was on his acoustic, or when MoShambo was singing to us about "Taking a Load Off", or even when the night was coming to a slow bittersweet close and together we all harmonized in sync bidding each other goodnight. But I think that we can all agree that using the word "blessed" comes as close as we're gonna get.
