Christine Ries is one of the five artists who will create a portrait for the upcoming Faces of Akron project! Ries is an artist who grew up in southern Ohio and attended The University of Akron. She has been represented in the Harris Stanton Gallery and enjoys telling stories with her work and illustrating different experiences she has had in her own life. Color is a main subject of her work and she loves exploring it in her pieces. Currently, Ries is the Operations Manager at Akron Soul Train. We are looking forward to seeing the final portrait she creates!
Meryl Engler is one of the featured artists for the upcoming Faces of Akron project happening right here at Summit Artspace! Meryl is a printmaker who grew up in Huntington Beach, California and moved to Akron in 2019. During her time in Akron she's become very involved in the community, including working with Rubber City Prints, Inc. and Akron Soul Train. In her art, she seeks to push the limits of printmaking and combine different media in new and exciting ways. She mostly creates woodcut prints and does so in a series of layers. Her pieces involve lots of experimentation and tend to revolve around different relationships she's experienced in her life. Congratulations, Meryl! We look forward to seeing what you create for Faces of Akron.
