This Friday, the 13th is the Opening Night of our Winter Exhibitions! Of the five shows debuting that evening is our 19th Annual "FRESH" Juried Exhibition! Every year, "FRESH" challenges local artists to push the boundaries of what art can be—stylistically, conceptually, and technically—and challenges the viewer to see the world through a new lens. This year's "FRESH" is juried by Michael Gill, Executive Director, Founder, and Editor of Collective Arts Network Journal (CAN Journal).

Please join us at 5:30pm in the Betty & Howard Taylor Main Gallery for the "FRESH" best in show awards, to be announced by juror, Michael Gill!

This year, Summit Artspace had 86 local artists submit 159 artworks to FRESH. Each new iteration of the exhibition is guaranteed to feature exciting artworks using a wide variety of nontraditional materials and subject matters by established and emerging artists.

We're excited for this special event during our Winter Exhibitions Opening Night - this Friday, the 13th!
At 6pm, please join us for an artist panel: "Celebrating Q***r Voices and Journeys" in our Forum Gallery.

Hosted by 👏🥳✨ exhibition curator Moo (they/per), this panel of exhibiting artists will discuss what it means to be a Q***r Artist. There will be an exploration of the obstacles in place, the emotional endurance, and most importantly, the successes. Each panelist and the host have a deep experience navigating the art world through their q***r lenses. After hearing about their journeys and a short Q&A, they will explore what it means to celebrate them and their art. Featured panel artists include Edson Rosas (he/they), Abby Cipar (they/them), Eli West (he/they), Peach Fuzz (she/her), Angél Avinea (she/her), and Kenron Morgan (he/him).

This artist panel is in conjunction with the group exhibition, 👏🥳✨ (said verbally as "cheers, qu**rs"). “Moo With the View” is an Art Talk Show hosted by the drag artist Moo. Through Moo’s q***r lens, this exhibition is an extension of the talk show. It invites viewers into a conversation about unique artists and their life, practice, and art—while uplifting, celebrating, and promoting the diversity and talent of q***r artists.

Visit our Forum Gallery to see Caught up in Braches, an exhibition featuring very different artwork from two local artists who come together to explore city trees and the surrounding detritus and debris they live in. Avery Duff's paintings explore city trees, mainly apple trees, that are cultivated around the city. Matt Kurtz's sculptures, photos, and video work engage with trees directly and physically.

Christine Ries is one of the five artists who will create a portrait for the upcoming Faces of Akron project! Ries is an artist who grew up in southern Ohio and attended The University of Akron. She has been represented in the Harris Stanton Gallery and enjoys telling stories with her work and illustrating different experiences she has had in her own life. Color is a main subject of her work and she loves exploring it in her pieces. Currently, Ries is the Operations Manager at Akron Soul Train. We are looking forward to seeing the final portrait she creates!
Meryl Engler is one of the featured artists for the upcoming Faces of Akron project happening right here at Summit Artspace! Meryl is a printmaker who grew up in Huntington Beach, California and moved to Akron in 2019. Her pieces involve lots of experimentation and tend to revolve around different relationships she's experienced in her life. Congratulations, Meryl!
