"It was not witches who burned.
It was women.
Women who were seen as
Too beautiful
Too outspoken
Had too much water in the well (yes, seriously)
Who had a birthmark
Women who were too skilled with herbal medicine
Too loud
Too quite
Too much red in her hair
Women who had a strong nature connection
Women who danced
Women who sung
or anything else, really.
ANY WOMAN WAS AT RISK BURNING IN THE SIXTEEN HUNDREDS
Sisters testified and turned on each other when their babies were held under ice.
Children were tortured to confess their experiences with “witches” by being fake executed in ovens.
Women were held under water and if they float, they were guilty and executed.
If they sunk and drowned they were innocent.
Women were thrown off cliffs.
Women were put in deep holes in the ground.
The start of this madness was years of famine, war between religions and lots of fear. The churches said that witches, demons and the devil did exist and women were nothing but trouble. As we see even today, there is often a scape goat created, and the chaos escalated in Sweden when the Bible became law and everything that did not line up with what the church said became lethal. The Bible fanaticism killed thousands of women.
Everything connected to a women became feared, especially her sexuality.
It became labelled as dark and dangerous and was the core of the witch trials through out the world.
Why do I write this?
Because I think the usage of words are important, especially when we are doing the work to pull these murky, repressed and forgotten about stories to the surface. Because knowing our history is important when we are building the new world. When we are doing the healing work of our lineages and as women. To give the women who were slaughtered a voice, to give them redress and a chance of peace.
It was not witches who burned.
It was women."

ABOUT THE CREATIVES PROJECT (TCP)
A vital force in Atlanta’s arts community, TCP is the city's first non-profit to support the creative class through affordable housing residency programs. TCP strengthens and unites arts, education, community and commerce by creating an arts eco-system that empowers eager citizens to recognize Atlanta’s potential. We accomplish this goal by engaging fresh resources, implementing crucial and deliberate arts and culture initiatives and leading arts-based education. TCP patrons donate subsidized housing and studio space to support our artists as they serve Atlanta’s youth and elders otherwise lacking access to creative outlets, experiences and instruction.

“Life is amazing. And then it's awful. And then it's amazing again. And in between the amazing and awful it's ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That's just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it's breathtakingly beautiful.”

“I do not miss childhood, but I miss the way I took pleasure in small things, even as greater things crumbled. I could not control the world I was in, could not walk away from things or people or moments that hurt, but I took joy in the things that made me happy.”

EDIT: Ignore Zoe's not super accurate comment about lichen. The rest of the post is the bigger point.
Also, when I hear Lichen, I think of Lycan, and then I think of Lucian, and then I think of Selene, and then I spend the weekend day-drinking and watching all the Underworld movies.

My reflection for the day from my favorite poet, Mary Oliver. I read it slowly out loud - it never fails to deeply touch my heart. Wishing you a blessed day.
Praying
It doesn’t have to be the blue iris, it could be weeds in a vacant lot, or a few small stones;
just pay attention, then patch a few words together and don’t try to make them elaborate,
this isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks, and a silence in which another voice can speak.”

The semi abstract outcome of the live demo I did earlier this week. Thank you so much to everyone who have joined this slow paced year long colour challenge. The idea is to use a limited selection of colours that I share every Monday. The colours come from different sources, including artworks, packaging, vintage finds, nature, folk art and so on. I really like to do research and will be sharing colours and stories with you. You can join the special mailing list and get these prompts in your inbox. See my bio for link.

Life at Midlife
I am no longer waiting for a special occasion; I burn the best candles on ordinary days.
I am no longer waiting for the house to be clean; I fill it with people who understand that even dust is Sacred.
I am no longer waiting for everyone to understand me; It’s just not their task
I am no longer waiting for the perfect children; my children have their own names that burn as brightly as any star.
I am no longer waiting for the other shoe to drop; It already did, and I survived.
I am no longer waiting for the time to be right; the time is always now.
I am no longer waiting for the mate who will complete me; I am grateful to be so warmly, tenderly held.
I am no longer waiting for a quiet moment; my heart can be stilled whenever it is called.
I am no longer waiting for the world to be at peace; I unclench my grasp and breathe peace in and out.
I am no longer waiting to do something great; being awake to carry my grain of sand is enough.
I am no longer waiting to be recognized; I know that I dance in a holy circle.
I am no longer waiting for Forgiveness. I believe, I Believe.
