Give yall some story time for the day ❤️
Being a little girl growing up in Chicago, I never would have dreamed I would have gotten the opportunity to meet William “The Refrigerator” Perry. Football wasn’t just watching a game back then to us; it was an event. When the Bears were playing, no talking was allowed, and our parents were too focused on the game. I was raised to root for the Bears and whoever was playing the Packers (I still feel that way, or my father would roll over in his grave). The 1985 Super Bowl XX win made us the proudest city in the world. It's almost like we knew that would be the only one we would ever have. What followed was a chance for Chicago to puff out our chest and, of course, the famous Super Bowl Shuffle, which my brother and I would dance around to in our living room until we learned every last step. Although we could never afford to go to an actual game, my grandparents got us a little swag, one of which was a prized picture of my favorite, “The Fridge” magnet, which was ironically placed on their refrigerator. He was my favorite; he looked like a big teddy bear kind of guy. Well, this afternoon, I was able to put my arm around him, and he is, in fact, exactly what I thought he was as a little girl. With his kind eyes looking at this Chicago girl, I told him how he was always my favorite and what an absolute legend he is. And how the Bears will never be the same with their move to Hammond, Indiana.
Some interesting facts about why he is such a legend are that when he won the 1985 Super Bowl, it was his rookie season. He was the heaviest player to score a touchdown in Super Bowl History and has the largest Super Bowl ring, a feat still unsurpassed. Mr. Perry, thank you for the opportunity to meet this girl that was enamored by you, a dream I never thought was possible. I only wish my Dad was still alive to have been here with me today, but sir, you gave me some of the best childhood memories. You are truly a GOAT!
DA Bears!!!!
