Well, freaks...the time has come again. I'm hangin' up the mic and walking slowly into the solar eclipse with my eyes wide open. October 26th will be my final trivia at Blackfriar Pub Lakewood. It has been a wonderful year getting to know a new batch of wonderful meatsacks, but I feel like this chapter has come to an end.
About 3 years ago I packed it in because of COVID. A part of me hoped I would be back some day yet another portion was ready to move on from the bar life. "Retirement" was forced on me so I never got a sense of closure. I had hoped to return only doing 1 night a week at a location of my choosing. A place where I didn't have to apologize or prove the worth of what I had been doing for 20 years. Mick Jagger had it right: "You can't always get what you want...but sometimes...you get what you need."
When Kevin Bartley reached out over a year ago and asked if I knew anyone who could host a trivia night, my ego jumped up and said "No...but maybe I could."
Kevin was the exact type of GM I wanted to work with. Someone who "got it" and knew what Freakshow Trivia is. I missed entertaining people. I missed the connection. I thought I needed it.
So I gave it a year and, in that time, I got to meet a new family of freaks. I'm glad I did it.
I don't know what the next version of trivia will be at Blackfriar Pub Lakewood but I want you to remember what you have help to build on Thursday nights...a family of freaks! Keep going. Keep having fun. Keep being a sarcastic, unapologetic, witty, good-humored, ball-busting, loyal group of jackasses!! That place (and the world) needs you in it.
Finally...I want to thank all of you! From 89 Man Marchers (day 1) to This Team Sucks and all the insanity between, the badass staff, and to the management, thank you for letting me be me and do what I do!
