Built in 1920 as a home for silent films and vaudeville acts, the McSwain Theatre has been a diverse venue for entertainment for over 100 years. When first constructed, the theatre would screen A-list movies, and celebrities such as Roy Rogers would come to promote their films. Now owned by the Chickasaw Nation, the McSwain Theatre underwent renovations to preserve the site and update the faciliti
es with a new sound and lighting system, elevators, and an upper-floor gallery space to hold art shows and other special events. The theatre has expanded its venue to include live music, concerts, children's entertainment, comedy acts, stage plays, and more. While the McSwain Theatre has seen many changes since 1920, its identity and beautiful architecture remain intact. Stilwell and the Crossover, still performs onstage once a month with her band, singing country, and gospel classics. Local musicians still step into the spotlight with hopes of seeing their name on a Nashville marquee. Country legends grace the stage, and families still line up for modern-day movies, classic film screenings, and performing arts events.
