WHAT DOES PRO TOOLS GIVE YOU TO CREATE YOUR SOUND❓

For me, it’s a system built right into Pro Tools that I don’t think enough people use or know about.

And that’s HEAT.

HEAT stands for Harmonic Exciter, Analog Tape. It’s a saturation system built directly into Pro Tools that allows you to add harmonic character and density to your tracks.

I’ve found some useful ways to incorporate it into all my mixes, so I wanted to demonstrate how I use HEAT.

I don’t believe a DAW has a “sound.”
But I do believe the tools and technology built into each DAW can give you different ways to create your sound.

And HEAT is one of those tools in Pro Tools that deserves more attention.

MIXING ISNT JUST TURNING 🎚️ UP AND DOWN RUSS

If all I did was “level” the kick and bass, I’d still have the same problem….. they’re fighting for headroom

Let me show how I gained an extra 3dB of headroom without changing the audible character of the mix

Every time the kick hits, I’m using *KICK* as a sidechain trigger to compress the attack of the bass The bass momentarily gets out of the kick’s way, giving the kick more room to breathe

Before processing: Kick + Bass = -3dB on the mix bus
After processing: Kick + Bass = -6dB on the mix bus

And the important part is the listener doesn’t hear the bass getting noticeably quieter

That’s mixing

It’s not just making sounds louder or quieter, It’s controlling dynamics, frequency relationships, transients, space, and headroom so the entire mix can work together.

This has never been just about working out…..

It’s been about bringing people together in the name of healthier living and the community. It never mattered where you came from or what stage of your fitness journey you were on. Whether you’re a professional trainer or stepping into your very first workout, everyone was welcomed, encouraged, and pushed each other to be better.

This one was especially meaningful as we celebrated BAS DAY Legacy Edition, honoring the lives of Baseem “Bas” and Yasmeen “Munchie.” The love this community showed was incredible, and seeing everyone come together made this one truly special.
