Hey there! We have a new addition to the Crazzy Critters family!

This is baby Clementine, a Western Hognose snake also known as Heterodon nasicus. They are native to Southern Canada, parts of the midwestern United States and into Mexico.

Hognose snakes are a common pet. They can be found in many color variations from grey, browns, oranges and whites. As you can tell, our baby snake was definitely named after his orange color pattern!

Hognose snakes are considered a harmless species to humans but fascinatingly are a rear fanged venomous snake!! Rear fanged meaning that the teeth in the furthest part of the mouth are what delivers the venom - as opposed to the majority of venomous species carrying venomous fangs in the front of the mouth such as cobras and vipers.

In the wild Clementine would feed on small amphibians, reptiles and small mammals such as mice.

Clementine’s unique nose shape is used to help tunnel into soil for hiding, regulating body temperature and seeking out prey!

As always, thank you for supporting the Crazzy Critters Crew! We hope you love our newest addition to the family! See you at the shows!

These stunning snakes are venomous members of the viper family found throughout most of Central America. Their vibrant colors and sharp facial features make them some of the most beautiful snakes in the world. Vipers are found with an abundance of color variations - from shades of green to brilliant yellows such as these ones!

Like most snake species, vipers are nocturnal but will never pass up an opportunity to warm up in the sunshine!

These snake feeds mostly on lizards, frogs, small rodents, and may occasionally even catch a small bird. Their potent venom is made to quickly and effectively paralyze and kill, allowing them to then consume their prey.

These snakes are beautiful! Let us know what you think in the comments! As always, see you at the shows!!

This week’s critter highlight choice is the Ball Python (Python regius), or the Royal Python!

😃 here are a few photos we’ve taken of our Eve enjoying last summers roses 🌹 She is about 2 years old and has already been brought to many shows and events!

Fun Facts: Ball Pythons have been recorded to live 50+ years and reach a length 4 -6 feet! They have up to 60 sharp curved teeth which are perfectly designed to hold their small rodent prey. Mother pythons lay between 4 - 10 eggs in a clutch. Babies are self sustaining from birth and do not require any protection or help from their mothers 🐍 pretty impressive huh ?! 👏🏼👏🏼

Typically found through out West and Central Africa, they have become a popular pet for reptile lovers worldwide!

Habit: usually found in grassy plains and scrublands hiding in natural burrows and those created by other animals

Conservation status: listed as near threatened due to over collection for the pet, food, and snake skin trade. Unfortunately, even though large numbers of Ball Pythons are bred in captivity, they are still mass collected from the wild. Captive breeding helps produce healthier bloodlines and helps maintain those healthy wild populations

Ball Pythons come in a wide varieties of color and patterns - blacks, browns, yellows, banana morphs, shades of grey

A lot of people have misconceptions about all snakes being scary and dangerous but Eve is very gentle, friendly, and the perfect snake companion for all ages to hold at shows and events!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from the Crazzy Critters crew!

We hope everyone had a safe fun weekend celebrating! We had a lot of fun crafting the float and seeing all of you at the parade! Thank you for all of your support and we hope to see you again at next year’s parade! 🍀

Say hello to our Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus) also known as the Quaker parrot, named Spaghetti!

She has beautiful gray, blue, green feathers and definitely loves her treats. Grapes are her favorite 🤩

Quaker parrots are from South America but feral populations have been found in many areas including North America and Europe

Habitat: naturally they live in temperate to subtropical forests however they are often found near cities in much of the areas that have feral populations

Fun facts: impressively, the Quaker parrot is among some of the best talking parrots in the world! They come in a wide verity of colors with the wild bloodlines being mostly green and gray. Quaker parrots are very adaptive and are now feral in many areas even right here in New England!

You may spot them living amongst us in MA, RI, CT, and NY! Many feral populations also exist in Europe. We’ve included pictures of Devin seeing them in Barcelona, Spain!

Conservation status: because of their adaptive nature and the ability to take advantage of human structures, they will likely maintain a healthy wild population and are not currently on a threatened species list! In the United States they are readily available in the pet trade and come in many color morphs!

If shopping for a bird pet to bring home, please remember that parrots can live up to 20+ years and they can be messy, destructive and loud!

Hey guys! I have been really busy with shows lately. The crazy critters team is grateful for all of the bookings you’ve given us but sometimes it leaves little time for social media posts …

I’m going to try to be better about posting starting with a weekly highlight post with some of our favorite animals from our shows and just some of our residents that don’t come out with us!

First up for this weeks highlight - our emperor scorpion (Pandinus imperator) 🦂

Range: west Africa

Habitat: wide range of habitats from savanna’s to rainforests. Usually found under debris hiding and looking for food!

Fun Fact: They are the largest scorpions in the world as of today and like most scorpions they have a unique ability to glow when exposed to ultraviolet light. This is not fully understood yet but it is most likely a way for them to sense sunlight with their entire body and a why to help them to communicate!

Conservation: They are a relatively calm and easy species to keep as a pet and have been over collected for this but they now more protected in the wild and are regularly breed in captivity here in the US!

What do you think about this scorpion? Would you be brave enough to get close and see her change color in UV light?? Let us know what you think in the comments and feel free to share this post! See you at the shows!

This is one of our East African armadillo lizard, Cordylus tropidosternum. We have a small group of them and they are very neat little lizards only reaching about 4-8 inches long, they come from the dry forests of southern east Africa. Although they eat mostly insects they will often eat plants and flowers from the branches they frequently bask on! While it’s cold outside here, they enjoy temperatures around 80° and a basking spot of around 115°!

Getting outside and seeing animals in their natural habitat is pretty amazing! Through our programs we teach people about all types of animals, habitats and their interactions with one another. We are always trying to get people to go outside and engage with the outdoors! Not only can we learn about the world around us this way but also spend valuable time with others! With a few days off, a trip to the Everglades was just what we needed! These are some wild American alligators! You can meet our resident alligators during our programs and remember when dealing with any wild animals make sure to respect them and give them their personal space!

We have had this little guy for a few months now! He is an albino tegu and will be one of our new ambassadors! Tegus are amazing animals growing to almost 4ft and being omnivores they are very adaptable! This one is extra special due to being albino! It will still be a bit before he’s out doing programs but for now he’s growing very quickly and becoming more and more social!
