Always a pleasure visiting my work at CDR Frame Shop & Art Gallery I dropped off a new batch of soda fired pots and was reminded of this summer pour over set. It’s still one of my favorites. All the color and texture 😍

I thought I’d share up close what my textures consist of. These surfaces record life currently. My hands press bits of clay across the pot (a nice thumb swipe) as a base for all the impressions. A mixture of my kid’s toys: legos, monster truck tires, and play doh rollers. With their toys I get to play with balance and composition. My pots reflect their constant influence in my life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

LIFE UPDATE:
We have moved! Just a town over. Through quite the whirlwind we have sold our previous house and bought a brand new build not far from where we were. And while I’ll miss my garden (I did transplant some tomatoes to take to the new house) and our big yard, this has been a good move for our family. The biggest bonus is my kiln will easily fit into our garage and my studio will finally, after 4 years of storage, be completely up and running! I can’t wait to add my colorful stamp to this blank canvas of a house. Too many white walls. I hope to share all the home projects and I can’t wait to hang my art collection here. (Also how cheery and welcoming are these flowers from Linda Doan 😍)

Finally dropped some new work off at Dot+Hop Art Studio! It’s always so fun to see Hattie Hopkins in her creative space. It’s different every time you walk in. I was happy to leave her with some new teapots, bowls and vases. Her first Friday event for July is always a party, go check it out this week!

Another year around the sun! (Technically 37 not 36, the candles were a year off 😆). Just got home from a long road trip to visit family in north Alabama. Spent most of today driving but came home to a thoughtful husband cooking dinner and even baked me a cake! I’m feeling so grateful to experience all the adventure (nothing like taking your 9 year old to the ER for a broken big toe) and all the mundane ordinary parts, like coffee at my brothers house in a mug he got from me, and all the things in between. I’m so very grateful and blessed to be sure. 🥰

Popping on to say I’m still alive! This summer has been filled with lots of family trips and somehow I looked up and my whole June seems mapped out. All good things, but busy things. Making pots has been slow but I know it’s only for a short season. My hands still remember the clay and my ideas are all waiting for me to return. And really, that’s the best part about being an artist. The work will always be waiting for me.

Life lately. Art has mingled with daily living, as it should, and this season feels sweeter without too much pressure to be productive. I’ve allowed myself the time to read and be outside as much as I can, and to enjoy my children. It’s been a while since I’ve given myself permission to take a break from the hustle of selling my work. Which means when I get back to it I’ll be better for it.
