Starring Julie Andrews as Maria, a young novice, is sent by her convent in 1930s Austria to become a governess to the seven children of widowed naval officer, Georg von Trapp (Christopher Plummer). Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved stage musical inspired this cinematic telling of story of a governess who won the heart of the Von Trapp family, and whose courage led them across the Alps in their 1938 flight to freedom. This classic cinema treasure from 1965 won five Academy Awardsยฎ, including Best Picture. It also won Best Motion Picture from the Golden Globes. The American Film Institute ranks it in the top 5 film musicals of all time.
