KARAMOJA: ONE REGION, MANY PEOPLES:

Karamoja is not home to one tribe. It is a region of diverse communities with their own histories, languages and identities.

The Karimojong, in the narrower traditional sense, are three main sections:

🟤 Bokora— mainly associated with Napak and central Karamoja.
🟢 Pian— mainly associated with Nabilatuk and Nakapiripirit.
🔵 Matheniko— mainly associated with Moroto and Mount Moroto.

Other distinct peoples of Karamoja include the Jie, Dodoth, Tepeth, Ik, Pokot, Ethur/Labwor, Nyakwae and Napore.

Many of these communities have long histories of pastoralism, agriculture, migration, trade and interaction. Their histories also connect to the wider Karamoja Cluster, stretching across Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia.

One region. Many peoples. Many histories. One rich cultural heritage.

Drama erupted today in Abim All saints cathedral between the LC2 and Rev Canon which ended up into a fight, according to witnesses, the Local councilor wanted to make an announcement in church but was denied by the Rev Canon which resulted into a bitter argument between the two that later led into a fight. The Protestant church of Uganda has come out to condemn such act and assured the believers that the issue has been settled.
