Surfaces is back!! After a long break, we are excited to announce the 3rd edition of our workshop series Surfaces is now open for applications!

Surfaces 3 is a conceptual development master class organized by Afriart Gallery and mentored by Henry ‘Mzili’ Mujunga.

Using drawing skills to create art in a more experimental way, young artists of all art disciplines are invited to experiment with proper application of the elements of art such as line, tone and texture while placing emphasis on simplicity, variety and clarity. They explore media, techniques and style with the purpose of expressing what they feel about current issues obtaining in their daily existence.

The artists carry out an enquiry into the processes involved in choosing surfaces that are outside their comfort zones and working on formats that are larger than those they are used to. They overcome challenges of enlargement ensuring that little is lost in translation from their original drawings to the final drafts.

Surfaces 3 takes on a format of a critique, instruction and production over a period of 6 weeks with the aim of the participants presenting a new work in a group exhibition at Afriart Gallery. The mentor meets the participants once a week for a 5-hour session to discuss their works and how to improve. The program ther, thereforeres artists to have their own studio/working space.

Visual artists from all disciplines at early stages in their practice based in and around Kampala.

SoulArt is a critical publication documenting and contextualizing the practice of the visual artist . In his book, Matt engages in a conversation exploring the parallels between art and music, with a particular focus on soul music and the reflection in Ateny's work. He has discovered intriguing similarities between the two, prompting discussions on emotions and their fusion with artistry. SoulArt delves into the historical connection of art and music from early civilization while emphasizing the context of Ugandan contemporary culture.

She must then embark on a mission to rectify the grave mistake she has made with this mission sending her on an odyssey through history, into the future, and back again." - Lloyd

Repost • The past two weeks have been intense as I was racing to finish my book, my first ever, which is part of project. Was writing, reading, jumping around libraries to collect as much important info as possible. To tell you the truth, I never saw myself becoming a published writer, but I guess as they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree... I saw those ABCs before most of my kindergarten peers at my parent's bookstore, I literally grew up around books. Excited about making history or better yet, becoming part of it.
My book should be out in a week or so, you will get to know about the launch soon, keep your eyes here!

Devis The poet is a poet, playwright from Luwafu, Uganda. He is the founder of Luwafu Road Press, a publishing house focused on growth in craft for Ugandan poets. He has a set of twin books that came out in may 2023 called THE ARTIST AND THE TOURIST. His works have been published in theWeganda review. He was longlisted for the Babishai poetry prize. He is the pioneer of soetry, song and poetry, a genre of performance poetry that fuses both music and poetry verse.

Balunywa Ibrahim aka Ebrahim Soul'O is an alternative hip-hop soul artist from Kampala-Uganda. He has three music albums under his belt. His latest concept album, “Shaka” was released in March 2023. He garnered attention from the Pearl of Africa star search competition in 2021. In April 2022, he emerged as the first runner-up of the MTN Hiphop cypher of 2022. Ebrahim soul’O has performed on several stages, such as the Maurice Kirya Live, Afropalooza, Nyege Nyege, Blankets and Wine (10th edition), the Pearl of Africa Star Search, the Sofar Kampala, Bayimba Festival and many others.

// Frank Mugisha is a Rwandan-Ugandan dance artist based in Kampala. He has trained in contemporary dance, breakdance and African traditional dances, which he fuses to create a unique artistic identity. As a creative facilitator, movement student, educator, and performer, Mugisha uses dance as a tool for self-expression, bridge-building, and a vehicle for social change. Mugisha's work has sent him all around the world.

A Break in Continuity 🔸️ Exhibition Opening Res III

We are delighted to invite you to the showcase of 's work at on 25th April from 5pm - 8pm 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

During the residency program, the artist explored human emotion from both an observational and personal perspective. This involved research and collaboration with writers, performers, and members of the general public. Through this, the artist learned a lot, and the experience sparked new curiosity within his practice.

In addition to exhibiting the art created during this learning experience, collaborates with performers in this exhibition. This fusion aims to translate the artist's interpretation of human emotion into spoken word and movement: There will be live acts by , , and 🔶️

As a passionate keynote speaker, she champions lifting stigma on mental well-being. While pursuing her Ph.D. in neuropsychology, Buhenzire is recognized for notable contributions in the African corporate context. Her specialties encompass psychoanalysis, Mental Health Advocacy, and enhancing emotional intelligence in high-stake corporate environments.

With Buhenzire, we are excited to highlight the artists' theme 'Mapping human emotions through art' from a perspective of mental wellness and well-being. Oh yes, there will be lots to talk about and share - grab a drink and join the conversation! 🗣
