‘Star Wars’ Celebration: Exciting Updates From Lucasfilm Publishing Panel
The Lucasfilm Publishing Panel from Star Wars Celebration 2022 has wrapped. It brought several exciting updates on books, comics, and short stories coming to a bookstore near you.

There was a brand-new reveal, and for those of you who are High Republic fans, you will be excited. Chronicles of the Jedi is in the works, and it will be an illustrated guide to the Jedi of The High Republic era. For those still a bit unfamiliar with The High Republic, this is a golden age of the Republic, when the Jedi are at their peak. The art for this book promises to be a bright and beautiful look at a wonderful new era of Star Wars.
Below are a pair of tweets from Laughing Place with a first look image at Chronicles of the Jedi and Starlight Stories straight from the panel:

‘Star Wars’ Celebration: The High Republic Continues To Grow With New Titles and Covers From Phase 2

More exciting news coming out of Star Wars Celebration today! An absolute boatload was shown at this afternoon’s High Republic panel. The High Republic Show‘s Krystina Arielle hosted the best names in Star Wars publishing and architects of the High Republic era stories; Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Cavan Scott, Daniel José Older, and Charles Soule discussed where we’ve been and where we’re going in the next phase, Quest of the Jedi.

Right into the reveals (as there were a lot) with everything that wasn’t shown at the separate Lucasfilm Publishing panel… Before getting deep into phase 2, Kristin Baver came out to show more from The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic. We got a cover for the book, which is currently set for release on November 8th.We then got into phase 2, which takes place 150 years before phase 1. A unique aspect of the upcoming slate of High Republic stories is that there will be two different chancellors; Chancellor Greylark is interested in the expansion of the galaxy, while Chancellor Mollo is more focused on the goings-on of the core from his perch of the Outer Rim. Charles Soule says they aren’t at odds despite having very different ideologies about how the galaxy should grow.

Review: ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Parts I and II – An Excellent Return to a Beloved Character

Not that anyone was really that worried, but it’s a pleasure to say that Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s first two episodes are excellent. It delivers everything you’d expect of a series based around Obi-Wan post-Revenge of the Sith; a look at a man just trying to survive as the Jedi are actively hunted by the Empire, but coerced out of hiding to do one last good deed for a friend.

The production value is excellent, which has always been one thing you can rely on from a Star Wars project in the Disney era, but the score is simply incredible. As Part I opens, you hear music that sounds like it came straight out of A New Hope and you’re instantly transported right back into the galaxy we know and love. The music is on point throughout both episodes, perfectly encapsulating moments of fear, sadness and warmth across the roughly 50-minute runtime for each installment.
The Grand Inquisitor feels like the same character we met in Star Wars Rebels, and Rupert Friend plays the part exceptionally well. Even the Fifth Brother, often maligned for his incompetence in Rebels, feels more interesting here. His personality feels a little less cartoonish than it did in the animated series.

Not everything worked for me – Reva’s motivations feel slightly contrived at this early point in the story, while Kumail Nanjiani’s character arc felt a little rushed and unearned – but otherwise these first two episodes were close to perfect.

The characters are all well written – Obi-Wan feels like the same man we left behind after he walked off into the twin sunset in Revenge of the Sith, or at least a believable version of him knowing everything the man has suffered over the last 10 years. Reva – confirmed to be the Third Sister in the Inquisitorius – seems a great villain so far, and Moses Ingram’s performance is fantastic as you constantly see her rage simmering under the surface.

Kathleen Kennedy Reveals Next ‘Star Wars’ Films Set After the Time of the Sequel Trilogy

While there was not news for Star Wars movies at yesterday’s Lucasfilm presentation (aside from a very small bit of news for the still-untitled Indiana Jones 5), a new report gives us a similarly small update on the state of the films. Current word from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy indicates that many of the films that are in development will be set after the events of the Sequel Trilogy.

Empire managed to speak with Kennedy at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim with a bit of new knowledge from their correspondence with her. It seems that while the shows on Disney Plus are likely to continue exploring the eras between specific movies – with shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor exploring the time between the original and prequel trilogies, and shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka exploring the time between the original and sequel trilogies – the focus of the films will be about leaving the nine-film Skywalker Saga behind and showing the state of the galaxy after the destruction of the Sith and the fall of the Final Order. Here’s what Kennedy had to say:
“We’re moving further beyond the existing sequels as we look to our movie space. [The sequel era] is what we talk a lot about in terms of where we’re going with our movies, and just how far out from that we’ll go. That’s very much the space we’re concentrating on.”

Part of this isn’t news, as it’s been known that Rogue Squadron would be set after The Rise of Skywalker since it was announced as taking place in a new era. However, it is interesting to consider that projects such as Taika Waititi’s film, or possibly the Kevin Feige-produced film, will explore the near-future of the galaxy far, far away. And while the possibility of Episode X, Episode XI, and Episode XII seem very far away, it seems like these new movies may provide a way for us to revisit what characters introduced in the sequel trilogy are up to, even if they aren’t necessarily the focus of these stories.

As a film
"It wasn't always going to be a series, not initially. When we first started talking about, that wasn't really in the cards, but everything's changed so much, so quickly. It's really exciting that it is now. I'm really into the idea to be able to tell the story over several hours instead of just one hit. I think it's going to be quite cool."
