Two years ago, I made a quick plein air sketch of a sunrise over water.
I thought it was just a moment.
But it stayed with me.
Later, I painted a small piece from memory — trying to capture not just what I saw, but what I felt.
One question kept coming back:
How do you paint a sunrise so it doesn’t feel like a sunset?
Because they carry completely different emotions.
A sunrise is a beginning. A quiet promise of something new.
I still didn’t fully understand the answer.
But I couldn’t let it go.
So a year later, I took a bold step — and painted it large.
This work became something more than just an image.
It’s about that brief moment before everything wakes up…
when the world feels like it’s holding its breath.
Did I finally understand how to capture that elusive feeling?
I’m not sure.
But some things in painting aren’t meant to be explained —
only felt.
