RIGHT of withdrawal In accordance with Article L 121-21 of the Consumer Code, the Customer has a period of fourteen (14) clear days from receipt of his order to exercise his right of withdrawal. If this right is used, the Customer must return, at his own expense, his purchase intact, in its original packaging, within fourteen (14) days of the date of withdrawal. The right of wi

thdrawal can also not be exercised for damaged, opened, stained or damaged items. At ECHO, we know that textile production can have an environmental impact, so we try to make conscious choices at every stage of the process — from the materials we use to the way we produce and source them.

We work with natural fibres and natural dyes, cooperate with local suppliers (usually small businesses), avoid sourcing materials from far away when we can, minimise production waste and reuse leftovers whenever possible. We also produce in small quantities rather than mass-producing our textiles.

None of this is always the easiest or cheapest option, especially for a small business. But we believe that the way we make things matters.

With new EU environmental initiatives and regulations, many of which are particularly challenging for small businesses to navigate, we also felt it was important to share what we are already doing to minimise our footprint.

We’re constantly learning and looking for better ways to work. But being conscious of our impact is part of how we want to run ECHO.

Made from 100% natural wool and handwoven woolen yarns. This woven belt with tassels and copper rings is recreated based on the famous 11th-century Skjoldehamn find.

Get ready with me for The Odyssey in a historically inspired costume.

I went into the film with several perspectives: as a director, someone with experience in historical cinema, and a historical costume reconstruction enthusiast. That combination definitely shapes the way I look at every detail on screen, especially when it comes to how clothing is used to build character and world.

And yes, the costumes gave me a lot to think about. From silhouette choices to materials and how “historical” the film actually feels versus what we know from research.

Before we talk about Hollywood’s version of Ancient Greece, let’s take a look at the real thing.

These Coptic tunics were actually worn by people in Late Antiquity.
These tunics date back 1.5 millennium after the events described in The Odyssey.

The fundamental principles of clothing construction and dress remained largely unchanged.

Fashion moved much more slowly through time than we might imagine today, in an era of modern fast fashion.

While creating historical clothing, we can look at archaeological textiles findings, surviving garments such like accessories, written sources, iconography etc. Each piece of evidence helps us to understand what people wore exactly and how they looked like.

And this is exactly why historical accuracy in films is such an interesting topic.

So, how much does The Odyssey get right and what did Hollywood get completely wrong?

We received so many questions about our needles and stitching techniques under our recent posts.
Whenever a garment requires hand sewing, choosing the right needle is just as important as choosing the right fabric.

The ones we use today is a replica of an archaeological find from Gotland: hand-forged from raw iron, square in cross-section, with a hand-punched eye, just like the originals.

We make them in two functional sizes: a larger version (5.5–6 cm) that’s perfect for historical demonstrations and reenactment, and a smaller 4 cm version for everyday hand sewing.

Something exciting is on the way… 👀

Just before we reveal our next historical reconstruction, we’d like to revisit one of our favourite projects.

The Valsgärde 8 cloak, in the colours of the Swedish and Ukrainian flags (blue and yellow), is available to order.
If you prefer it in red, white, camel, or any other colour, just send us a DM. We’ll make it for you as a custom order.

This cloak is Inspired by the remarkable textile finds from the Valsgärde 8 boat burial in Sweden, this reconstruction is the result of extensive archaeological research combined with traditional weaving textile craftsmanship.

Each cloak is handwoven from 100% wool in a dense twill weave, featuring characteristic intersecting decorative stripes and hand-finished tassels. We’ve recreated it in a blue-and-yellow colourway — a little nod to its Swedish origins 🇸🇪

This cloak is produced as a limited edition, so if you’d like to add one to your kit, just send us a DM.

Situated along the Silk Road, the Alans had access to rare and expensive materials that were rare in much of Europe. Their clothing featured simple, practical cuts enriched with precious silk trims and fabrics.

Archaeological evidence also reveals garments carefully assembled from multiple fabric pieces, reflecting the value of every textile fragment at a time when cloth was an expensive resource.

This distinctive style was shaped by the environment in which the Alans lived. Although often associated with the Eurasian steppe, they inhabited a diverse landscape of rivers, mountains, and fertile plains, including the eastern and southern regions of present-day Ukraine, where many Alan communities settled during the 8th–10th centuries.

Their way of life also influenced how they dressed. As skilled horse riders, the Alans designed their clothing for life on horseback, combining comfort, freedom of movement, and practicality for both everyday activities and long journeys.

This reconstruction is inspired by Alan women’s clothing of the 9th–10th centuries and offers a glimpse into how they dressed, travelled, and lived more than a thousand years ago.
