After two years of testing, it’s time to light up the city💡

For the past two years, I’ve been testing a small lighting section around Legoland Kharkiv’s Central Square.
During that time, the system went through pretty much every kind of weather we get here — from around -25°C in winter to +40°C in summer.
Of course, there were a few minor failures along the way, but honestly, that only made the test more realistic. Even a LEGO city has maintenance issues from time to time 😄
The system proved reliable enough, so now it’s time to take the next step.
Over the coming weeks, the lighting network will begin expanding across a much larger part of Legoland Kharkiv.
These photos show one of the first stages of the new project — the installation of new streetlights in the small park around the Wanderer with a Cat monument.
Cranes, service trucks, workers, cables... turns out street lighting doesn't install itself, even in a LEGO city 👷

But once the sun goes down, it starts to make sense. Little by little, the city is preparing for a much brighter night 🌃

Meet some of the locals 🐈
August is hot in Legoland Kharkiv, and everyone is finding their own way to chill.
These two are Yosypovych and the Tattooed Cat - names we gave them mostly because of their looksл and personalities.

The Tattooed Cat got his name from the darker markings along both sides of his body that almost look like tattoos.
And honestly, the name fits the rest of him too. He walks around like he owns the whole neighborhood, looks like he has seen a few things in his life, and even seems to have a little battle scar under one eye.
Definitely not his first summer around here 😄

Yosypovych got his name in a much less logical way.
It was literally the first thing that came to mind when I saw him. “Yosypovych” is actually a patronymic-style name derived from Yosyp, and somehow it just sounded hilariously perfect for this cat - especially when you call out “YOSYPOVYCH!” with the right intonation 😄
He seems much younger than the Tattooed Cat and is usually more curious, energetic and ready to explore everything around him.
Although this time, after spotting the Tattooed Cat nearby, he suddenly decided that sitting quietly on top of his favorite little two-story house was probably the smarter option 👀

Neither of them is actually our cat. They are just local visitors who come and go whenever they feel like it, often stopping by for some food and a place to chill.

For the past few years, I’ve been trying to capture moments whenever different cats visit Legoland Kharkiv, so I can look back later and remember all these funny and wonderfully random little moments.
Some cats stay around for quite a while. Others simply disappear one day, and eventually new characters show up.
But somehow, each of them leaves a little story behind 🐾

It came for a quick look. Two days later, it was still here 👀

This little traveller may have flown in from the nearby river and decided to stop by Legoland Kharkiv.

It would disappear for a short flight, only to return to the same spot and continue watching the city. We still have no idea what kept bringing it back. Apparently, a brief stop accidentally turned into a two-day stay.

Maybe Legoland Kharkiv simply has that effect on visitors 😜

Kharkiv has its own way of dealing with missed deadlines.
Former Kharkiv mayor Hennadiy Kernes once made the phrase “multiply by zero” a local meme for when something was going wrong.
Looks like this local Kharkiv cat decided to continue the tradition 😼
He came to check the construction progress of the new buildings in Legoland Kharkiv - including the Hotel, Inspiration Tower and a few more upcoming city projects.
And if the deadlines are not met… well, someone might get multiplied by zero.
Make of that what you will.

A very unusual guest has checked into Legoland Kharkiv 🪲🏨
This stag beetle visited one of the newest buildings in the city - and yes, the first photo gives a small hint.
The building is still waiting for its proper introduction, and I’ll try to tell more about it in the coming months. But it looks like the first guest arrived before the official opening.

The first month of summer isn’t even over yet, and the cats of Legoland Kharkiv are already in full summer chill mode 🐾☀️
Some picked the city streets, some preferred the green outskirts, and some went straight for the softest patch of soil.
Looks like the LEGO city has officially been approved for naps, walks, lazy inspections and serious cat business.
How many cats can you count in this carousel? 👀

Ukrainian LEGO creativity was alive and shining at FANCON 2026 - and I’m really happy that Legoland Kharkiv became a small part of it ✨

On June 6-7, several dozen Ukrainian LEGO enthusiasts presented their creations as part of the UkrBricks community stand, and it was amazing to see how different every builder’s vision was.
Architecture, cars, fantasy worlds, sci-fi builds, military models, cute characters, strange creatures, tiny stories, big ideas — everyone brought their own unique vibe to the table 🧱

My personal favorite was definitely this fairy-tale LEGO DUPLO cat. It was almost the size of a real cat and had that strange “wait… is it going to blink?” energy 🐈
Some LEGO builds impress you with scale or technique, but this one just made me want to pet it and casually ask when it plans to come alive 😅

For me, this was only the second time taking part in an event like this. I couldn’t be there in person this time, but a small piece of Legoland Kharkiv still made it to FANCON - several of my models were displayed as part of the UkrBricks exhibition.

It also means a lot to me that despite the war, the LEGO community in Ukraine keeps moving forward. People still create, build, share ideas, support each other, and bring a bit of color into difficult times.

Huge thanks to all the participants and organizers who made this possible ✌️

Hopefully, one day I’ll be able to take part in an event like this in person

On June 6 - 7, the LEGO community will be presented at .ua in Kyiv.

The stand will feature creations by LEGO builders from across Ukraine. As a member of this community, I’m also taking part in the event by sending several models from my Legoland Kharkiv project, which will be displayed there as well.

Before departure, all buildings were carefully inspected by the local cat supervisor for missing pieces, structural issues, and overall exhibition readiness. The inspection was serious. The supervisor was fluffy.

So if you’re in Kyiv this weekend and want to see these creations in real life, this is a great chance to do it.

Visit UkrBricks at FANCON - stand 139 - and look for a small piece of Legoland Kharkiv there!
