У центрі нашого проєкту — «Словник війни» Ostap Slyvynsky, який учасники воркшопів перекладатимуть шотландською ґельською та шетландською мовами. Вибір цих мов — не випадковий. Це мови, що зазнавали суттєвих трансформацій, маргіналізації і витіснення. Мови, у яких є власний досвід втрати і власна історія виживання.
Шотландська ґельська сьогодні налічує близько 70 000 носіїв. Шетландська — ще менше. Але в кожній із них живе ціла культура, ціла система бачення світу — зі своєю поетичною традицією, власною писемністю і правописом, що формувалися століттями.
«Словник війни» — це тексти про слова, що змінили своє значення під тиском воєнної реальності. І в цьому проєкті вони зустрінуться з мовами, що зберігають памʼять про те, як реальність змінює мову.
Проєкт реалізується за підтримки British Council Scotland (Momentum Follow-Up Fund) у партнерстві з Creative Scotland.

At the heart of our project lies the Dictionary of War by Ostap Slyvynsky, which will be translated into Scottish Gaelic and Shetlandic. The choice of these languages is no coincidence. These are languages that have undergone profound transformations, marginalisation, and displacement. Languages that carry their own experience of loss and their own histories of survival.
Scottish Gaelic today has around 70,000 speakers. Shetlandic — even fewer. And yet, within each of them lives an entire culture, a distinct way of seeing the world — with its own poetic tradition, its own writing systems and orthographies shaped over centuries.
The Dictionary of War is a collection of definitions, focusing on words whose meanings have shifted under the pressure of wartime reality. In this project, they will meet languages that carry the memory of how reality transforms language.
