You might be asking, what are the squiggly lines on the side of the house? The walls of the house are comprised of bricks, base layer cement, outer layer cement (which are the squiggly lines) and a finishing layer such as washed terrazzo (small pebbles covering the surface of the walls). The squiggly lines on the top layer of cement is just so the terrazzo will stick firmly to the wall.
The first two floors of this house was built around 1927, the third floor was then finished after WW2 between 1945-1956. My guess is they had plans to finish the outer walls with terrazzo but never finished it. It was only about 20 years ago when my parents decided to add it the first floor. So now, the construction company needs to tap and see which part of the walls is damaged and restoring it back to the layer with the squiggly lines.
As a happy accident, I was also drawing squiggly lines on my mugs, not intentionally referencing the squiggly lines on the walls but it all worked out! For now, this has been a fun style to work on.
Fun fact, there are two cat prints on the last two picture of the slides. They said the cement needs to be dry enough of the prints to hold and wet enough to create the imprint, which gives it a short window of time for these prints to be created. The mystery of why there are only two paw prints is still up for debate.
