I am happy that my project "They told me that this is not your fault. The project "All the narratives are the retold of recollections" applied the texts from “All the writings are the writings of memories” written during Cheng’s artist-in-residency at Konstmuseet in Sweden in 2024. The residency explored the concept of migration while focusing on two subjects particularly - the Taiwanese political refugee in Sweden, Peng Ming-Min and the Swedish explorer Sven Hedin who specialized in Central Asia.

On her way from Taiwan to Sweden, Cheng chose to follow the steps of Peng, stopping by Hong Kong, Bangkok, Copenhagen, Stockholm, London, and then back to Stockholm. And inspired by the travel journals written by Hedin, Cheng documented her journey with texts. Through recollecting and narrating, Cheng intended to examine the line between personal experience and public knowledge, as well as how it was converted into one another, especially the roles gender and nationality played in the process.

For the project here, commissioned by curator Hung-Fei Wu for the exhibition “munus II: Immunity and Community for Contemporary Healing” at 本事藝術 Solid Art. Cheng considered the writings above as a process of externalizing her personal experiences and trauma. She invited nine participants, from professionals to amateurs, from family, close friends to strangers, to re-enact her journal. Through role playing and re-enacting, Cheng intends to apply the concept of Speech Act and Narrative Therapy to discuss the possibility and the methods of externalizing personal discomfort experiences. Under the context of “seeing everyone as nested living entities”, the project can be considered an experiment to see if we can live with our wounds through sharing.

Apart from the video that documented the re-enacting, in the installation, there was a table with personal items mentioned in the storyline, pen and papers with an acrylic box, and a recording microphone on a stand. The audience was invited to share their personal discomfort experiences, and also re-enacting others’ through audio recording.

本創作計畫利用藝術家鄭亭亭於去年至瑞典Skövde美術館駐村時的部分創作-《所有的書寫都是記憶的書寫 All the writings are the writings of memories》,其以遊記的形式,藉由回憶(re-collecting)與敘事來檢視個人經驗與公眾知識的界線,以及兩者之間轉化的過程與媒介,和性別與國族在該權力架構下所扮演的角色。在此次的創作中,藝術家將上述文本視為他個人經驗與創傷外部化的過程,並希藉由邀請參與者重新演繹,以扮演(role-playing / re-enacting)的形式,以及 Speech Act 與敘事治療的概念,來討論將個人創傷外部化的方法與可能性,並在以將「個人視為整體社會中鑲嵌的一部分(seeing everyone as nested living entities)」的情況下,實驗我們是否可以藉由共享創傷來與傷口共存,並觀察在過程中,分享者與扮演者外部化及內部化敘事的情形。

I am currently having my two-month artist-in-residency at 超級浪 Hyper Wave in Luodong, Yilan, where I will be research on the relationship between diet and and regional identity.

在羅東駐村已經十天。讀了一些關於宜蘭飲食的書,聯絡了不少想要訪問的對象,吃了很多宜蘭的名產,游了很多泳,騎了很多腳踏車,感謝 超級浪 Hyper Wave 給我這麼舒服的駐村空間。

這次想研究的是飲食習慣與地方認同的關聯,以及一個食物是怎麼變成一個地方的「名產」。

從羅東圖書館中借的其中一本書是由佛光大學出版,蕭麗華教授主編的《蘭陽飲食文學食單》。在讀陳玉箴的《台灣菜的文化史》前,我沒思考過關於飲食文學:書寫關於飲食(包括食材、烹飪、the action and the ceremony of eating itself)的經驗與記憶,藉由文學將個人經驗轉化為集體文化。

寫申請超級浪駐村的 proposal 時剛好讀完《台灣菜的文化史》,剛好和德奧藝術家們做完 Cooking as a Method,興奮地在想食物所形塑的國家認同(或是國家認同所形塑的食物)是否可以 apply 在宜蘭的地方認同,以一個如此觀光化的地方。

接下來我會在 Medium 上定期更新我每天的羅東飲食日誌,不知道那會變成什麼,有興趣的人歡迎去看。

From 17 Sep to 4 Oct, from 4 Oct to 6 Dec, my residency at Konstmuseet in Skövde is coming to an end. I can’t say if two months are short or long, but I definitely built a certain familiarity with Skövde, and met people whom I would like to continue being in touch with. We walked. We played games. We memorized. We collected. We documented. We displayed. Tomorrow at 17:30 at the museum, I will be sharing everything I did during these two months and half. It has been a productive and emotional journey. 🩷

兩個月在瑞典的駐村就要結束了,已經習慣這個小鎮的生活,卻也是離開的時候。在明天下午五點半,我會在美術館分享我這兩個多月所做的一切-我們行走、玩牌、回憶、書寫、收集、記錄、展示,期待這次的創作能夠盡快完整的和大家見面 🤜

My residency at Konstmuseet in Skövde, Sweden is coming to an end. My travel journal is continuously updated on Medium, and I am still playing the role of an explorer - collecting, documenting, and searching for the items left by Hedin.

在瑞典的駐村已經快接近尾聲,之前寫的遊記還是持續每週一在 Medium 更新,和彭明敏一起玩的 Oh Hell 也進行了一場,同時,我繼續扮演探險家的角色,不斷地記錄、撿拾,並尋找 Sven Hedin 所收集的物件。

Super happy to be not only the artist-in-residence, but also part of the exhibition "Nothing Happened here Today" at Konstmuseet , opened Thursday until 16 March. I personally love the selection of works, which shows the “non-stereotyped” Taiwan, not just about its relationship with China, in a very latent way. Thank Yulia and Tomas, the curators for the insightful interpretation of Taiwan. Thank every for coming on Thursday 🥂

我也在昨天開始了我今年在瑞典 Konstmuseet 的駐村,追隨政治家彭明敏的足跡,這趟旅程始於台灣,經過香港、曼谷、哥本哈根後,才會到達他於1970年取得政治庇護的斯德哥爾摩,我也會在Instagram上take over 這個帳號,紀錄下這次的旅程,歡迎 follow 我們 🙇‍♀️

I am extremely grateful to everyone I worked with, and FNF Global Innovation Hub foundation for making it happened. I also started my residency journey yesterday at Konstmuseet, Sweden. From Taiwan to Skövde, I will trace the steps of the politician and activist Peng Ming-Min, passing by Hong Kong, Bangkok, Copenhagen, to Stockholm, where he stayed as a political refugee in 1970. I am happy to present my new project "They told me it's not your fault. And I told them everything will be fine." commissioned by Friedrich Naumann Foundation at Node94, Taipei, opening on 12 Sep. The 23-minute immersive experience tackles the issues of Tech-facilitated Gender-based Violence through inviting audience to navigate the designed sets with headphones and smart phones. 很開心受到德國弗里德里希諾曼自由基金會在台辦事處的邀請,我的新作品「他們告訴我,這不是你的錯。而我告訴他們,一切都會沒事。」即將在9/12台北的Node94開幕,在該沈浸式互動體驗中,觀眾會跟隨著手機與旁白的指引,在展覽空間中的不同情境漫游,成為我們既熟悉又陌生的數位性暴力故事中的參與者。作品長度為23分鐘,一次限一人體驗(每15分鐘可以放一位觀眾入場)。只有六天,歡迎來體驗!
