"This year marks the long-awaited return of the Circus Asia Network (CAN) annual general meeting to Taiwan, hosted once again by Weiwuying after a six-year hiatus. At the same time, the Circus Platform has, for the first time, introduced the Artist Pitch Session, offering young artists in Taiwan an opportunity to connect with the international stage.

To help Weiwuying strengthen the platform’s global network, ARTWAVE’s Re-Flow Program has once again partnered with Weiwuying to launch the International Professionals Visiting & Exchange Program. More than 30 professionals from around the world were invited, including festival curators, venue producers, and artistic directors of circus companies. Among them were 14 delegates from Circostrada, the European Network for Contemporary Circus and Outdoor Arts.

Together, they engaged in four days of intensive exchange with Taiwanese artists and companies participating in the platform’s activities, with the hope of fostering future cross-border collaborations."

Thank you to the Liberty Times 自由時報 for the report on the CAN AGM, which has gathered circus elites from multiple Asia and Pacific countries.

After a six-year hiatus, the event has once again moved to Taiwan and being hosted again by 衛武營國家藝術文化中心 National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts - Weiwuying. Members from Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, Australia, Taiwan, and others came together to discuss the unique characteristics of Asian circus.
This year, the meeting also held its first dialogue with the European Circus Network Circostrada Network, hoping to link up the development of circus globally in areas such as international mobility and exchanges, Euro-Asian partnerships, education, and training.

After Premieres of “DADDA” by Setouchi Circus Factory last weekend, some of us are heading to Japan to attend Yokohama Performing Arts Meetings (YPAM) and also the network there.

Amid a full and interesting schedule, we arrived at the final event—the 2nd Acrobatic Dance BIG TOP Awards Ceremony, organized by the 臺灣特技舞蹈協會Taiwan ACRO DANCE Association.
The awards unite Taiwan’s acrobatic and circus industry, establishing a professional honor unique to Taiwan, and fostering talent exchange, work promotion, artistic innovation, and industry collaboration, allowing the world to see the power of Taiwan’s performing arts. 🤸‍♀️🤸🤸‍♂️

We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to witness the vibrant energy of Taiwan’s circus arts!🤹‍♀️🤹🤹‍♂️

After last night’s opening reception — filled with joyful food and conversations — came to a perfect close, we were greeted this morning by the other inspiring TALK for “Broadening Gender Boundaries through Devised Creation”!

Tim BEHREN from Germany, Overhead Project and Circus-Dance Festival: Who is carrying whom? When I become your body and you become mine, switching roles during creation brings new thoughts and perspectives.

Isabel JOLY from Belgium, FEDEC International Network for professional circus education: “safe” and “take care” is the key words for the 3 years projects with different phases. SPEAK OUT to create a safer space and support metal health & well-being in the circus arts sector. Shine your life!

Having a perfect ending is so ~ important! During yesterday’s intensive meetings, we still had an unfinished presentation. After Creative Group NONI / 창작그룹 노니 delivered the final and most crucial part of the sharing, the first founding Steering Committee symbolically handed over its duties to the next Steering Committee, which will begin its term next year. We believe that with new energy joining the team, even more people will come to recognize the vitality and vibrancy of the Circus Asia Network!
Thanks again for 衛武營國家藝術文化中心 National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts - Weiwuying Circus Platform to bring us together with amazing organized!

As the annual general meeting comes to an end, everyone will begin returning to their respective positions starting tomorrow. We believe that this conclusion is merely the beginning of our next conversations and collaborations. We are already looking forward to returning to Cambodia Phare Ponleu Selpak - Battambang next November for the next AGM!

After seeing the breathtaking BRUT show last night, we start a fantastic TALK this morning for “New Visions of Contemporary Circus Arts”!
