千杯不醉= Is a Mandarin idiom meaning that you don't get drunk easily. Literal character by character translation "1000 cups, not drunk".

well... it didn't turn out the way I had originally imagined. It is my first attempt at making a kind of banner thingy... but that's what this whole challenge is about. Trying new things even if they don't turn out. I still love the details in the bottle (though I definitely got impatient hearing the end and just called a day on it).
Gunna make a little booze bar in my (and my girlfriend's new apartmebt) and hang it there!)

This piece marks my Feburary challenge complete! 5/5 done!! 🎉🥳🎊🍻

Living in Taiwan where the standards for foreigners to speak Mandarin are severely low. I always have a little chuckle when I get an obscene amount of praise for saying "thank you" correctly.
I finished this little guy a few weeks ago. It is a great little conversation starter and helps service workers relax. The fear of having to communicate with a foreigner is real...

I was talking to my dad the other day and we were chatting about learning a new language. Why is it that when learning a new language we always start with the bad words? 🤣 靠北 Kào Běi is definitely classified as a bad word... but it just feels so good to say.

So... I finished January's projects a little early AND I will be camping during the Lunar New Year break, soooooo I decided it would be ok to prepare for February's theme a little early.
1) It is a Chinese Idiom: "千杯不醉" which literally translates to "1000 cups, not drunk". This piece will become a banner wall hanging thing.
2) It is a play with words. 牛 is the character for cow, but its Mandarin proninciation sounds (a little) like "new"... Níu year, Níu me!
3) There are traditional door hanging display things that are diamond shaped and have fake fire crackers hanging down in strips. I plan on making this into piece such as that; and I can reuse it each year on my door. The character is 福 fú and it essentially means : good fortune, blessings and happiness.
4) 中文OK is a little pin that I can wear that lets people know that I can speak Chinese. 中文 zhong wen (Chinese) OK... self-explanatory. It is a cute little conversation starter too.
5) Bad word alert! 靠北 is an expletive that is similar to English's "f**k". I think it is more of a Taiwan thing than a China thing, too. ALSO, I love puns...靠 's pronunciation is similar to English's "cow" ... very fitting since it is the year of the cow and all.

A very ambitious February, but I am feeling the inspiration!

I have been living in Taiwan for 6 and a half years-ish. In 2018 I received a scholarship to study Mandarin full time for 10 months. I think traditional written Chinese is not only beautiful, but hilarious at times, too.
My favourite example of this is: "lobster" in Mandarin it is 龍蝦(Lóng xìa) dragon-shrimp.
Since the Lunar New Year is coming upon us I thought it would be fitting to have a "Chinese New Year" Theme for February.
