Continuing our highlight of the works of our Production II course students set to be featured in our upcoming student theatre production, “On the Line”, today we bring to the forefront, “In Her Hands” by Brianna Worme and “The Pieces of Me that Don’t Belong” by Nyssa Bailey.

"In Her Hands" is a courtroom drama about a grieving mother seeking justice for her infant’s preventable death due to medical negligence. Through emotional testimonies and a haunting manifestation of grief, the play highlights the devastating impact of loss and the fight for accountability.

“The Pieces of Me” depicts the struggle of being "too much" for the world, as young performer Nova Marquis is once again told to tone herself down—this time, in her portrayal of Jab Molassie. This script is a powerful exploration of self-acceptance, cultural authenticity, and the fight to reclaim one’s true self.

Join us on April 25th & 26th at Queen’s Hall, St. Ann’s at 7 PM nightly (school’s matinee at 2 PM on the 26th) to witness how all 5 works complement each other, along with Zeno Constance’s “Eric: The Musical”, to bring you, “On the Line”!

This year’s Annual Student Theatre Production of 2025, “On the Line”, features the works of our Production II course students. With Zeno Constance’s “Eric the Musical” at its core, it is complemented by Azaria Halls’ “Where Two Worlds Meet”, Tevin Douglas’ “Nowhere to Call Home” and Abigail Seaforth-Leslie‘s “D Parliament Up in Smokes” in the first half.

“Where Two Worlds Meet” by Azaria Halls explores themes of identity, culture and self-discovery. The play follows Maya, a 17-year-old girl preparing to leave Trinidad for university abroad, as she grapples with her dual cultural heritage. Her internal struggle is symbolized by her two life-sized dolls who embody her foreign and Caribbean identities. Through flashbacks and monologues, Maya navigates her identity in an effort to embrace her blended cultural heritage.

"Nowhere to Call Home" by Tevin Douglas is a short play about a migrant family’s struggle to escape hardship, only to face discrimination and separation. As they flee, they are torn apart, with Andrew, Drea, and Lola confronting hostility and dehumanization in their new land.

“D Parliament Up in Smokes” is a social commentary on the nation’s current political state and the degree of control it has on its laws by reflecting on the Cannabis Control Act. As politicians, Ministers Lennard Jack and Kenneth Harry, lead the opposing sides of the 'Cannabis Control Act' debate, the reality of their circumstances often finds its way of slipping through the cracks.

Join us on April 25th & 26th at Queen’s Hall, St. Ann’s at 7 PM nightly (school’s matinee at 2 PM on the 26th) to witness these dynamic works and more!

The Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) invites you to the staging of the 2025 annual student theatre production titled "On The Line". This production is proudly presented in collaboration with the award-winning Malick Folk Performing Company CMT. This year's production returns to the Winnifred Atwell Auditorium of Queens Hall in Port of Spain for two nights, Friday 25th and Saturday 26th April 2025 at 7 pm. A special school's matinee will be held on the Saturday 26th at 2pm for school groups. Nationally known actor and DCFA alum, Michailean Taylor directs, with musical direction by Marva Newton and dance choreography by Deon Baptiste.

"On the Line" creates space for critical conversations by examining the past and present through theatre. At its core is "Eric the Musical" by Zeno Obi Constance, a biographical calypso musical on the life and contributions of Dr. Eric Williams, described as many as the father of modern Trinidad and Tobago. The Musical sets the stage for reflection on contemporary issues and is complemented by five bold, original 10-minute plays by students enrolled in the Production Il course at the Department of Creative and Festival Arts, UWI.

Each script tackles pressing social themes. From the struggles of migration in "Nowhere to Call Home" by Tevin Douglas, to the sharp political satire of "D Parliament Up in Smokes" by Abigail Seaforth-Leslie, the pursuit of justice in "In Her Hands" by Brianna Worme, the complexities of cultural identity in "Where Two Worlds Meet" by Azaria Halls, and the commercialization of mas intertwined with self-discovery in "The Pieces of Me That Don't Belong" by Nyssa Bailey, this production offers a rich tapestry of voices and perspectives.

By placing these works in conversation with each other, On the Line challenges audiences to reflect, engage, and interrogate the narratives that shape our society.

Tickets are $100 for adults and $75 for students. Teachers and student groups pay $60 each for the Matinee. Tickets can be purchased at the DCFA, Gordon Street, St Augustine or at the Queen's Hall Box Office.
