“Rum and Coca-Cola” was first sung and recorded by Lord Invader (born Rupert Grant), a Trinidadian calypsonian, in 1943.

The song later became internationally famous when The Andrews Sisters released their version in 1944, but that was a cover. Lord Invader’s original calypso version came first and reflected Trinidadian social commentary during World War II.
