National Academy for the Performing Arts - Lord Kitchener Auditorium The Lord Kitchener (Aldwyn Roberts) Auditorium at NAPA officially opened on November 9, 2009 It officially opened on November 9, 2009.

The Lord Kitchener (Aldwyn Roberts) Auditorium - NAPA is one of the four National Performing Arts spaces in Trinidad and Tobago. The Public Auditorium at NAPA was developed to play a pivotal role in the national plan for development of the arts and culture in Trinidad and Tobago. Constructed on what was formerly the Princes Building Grounds, its first performance “Dance Meh Lover” a presentation o

f the National Theatre Arts Company of Trinidad and Tobago was held on Saturday November 14, 2009. The production was launched as part of the soft testing to get the auditorium ready for the grand opening of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) on November 27, 2009. Following this opening, several shows were hosted at the Public Auditorium for both local and international artistes and personalities such as Heather Headley, the US National Symphony Orchestra, Colin Powell and Al Gore to name a few. On February 11, 2011, the Public Auditorium was renamed - The Lord Kitchener (Aldwyn Roberts) Auditorium - a fitting tribute to the calypsonian the world had come to know as the Grand Master of Calypso. Additionally, Kitchener’s “Calypso Revue” Tent was once housed on the Princess Building Grounds. The Lord Kitchener (Aldwyn Roberts) Auditorium - NAPA continues to be the premier location for hosting events of all types. The Auditorium falls under the purview of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. Interested in having your event at NAPA? 🎭 A village. A war. A people caught between tradition and change.

This June, experience one of the most celebrated works in Caribbean theatre as Dr. Efebo Wilkinson’s Same Khaki Pants returns to the stage.

Set in Arima during the final days of World War II, Lester Efebo Wilkinson’s award-winning folk classic takes audiences into a community transformed by the arrival of American soldiers, where rum flows freely, music fills the air, loyalties are tested, and one unlikely village character may just change the course of history.

Rich with humour, folklore, music, dance, and sharp social commentary, Same Khaki Pants remains as relevant today as when it first captivated audiences decades ago.

Today, we commemorate Indian Arrival Day and honour the strength, perseverance and cultural legacy of the thousands who arrived on our shores and helped shape the Trinidad and Tobago we know today.

Their contributions continue to resonate through our music, dance, theatre, literature, cuisine and traditions, enriching the vibrant cultural tapestry of our nation.

As the home of the performing arts, NAPA celebrates the stories, expressions and heritage that connect us across generations and communities. May this day serve as a reminder of the beauty of our diversity and the power of culture to unite us.

Happy Indian Arrival Day, Trinidad and Tobago. 🇹🇹
