On Letting go

I accept my husband had 44 years of life
And my son only 26 weeks.
I accept this was not a punishment,
test or sacrifice
People are on loan to us
And on earth we don’t have eternity.
I accept as a widow,
And the mother of a stillborn son
My life has changed completely.
I surrender,
I can’t go that way anymore
And my husband’s leukemia ridden body and my son’s heart stilled by high blood pressure,
I had to let them go.

Still I was scared of this growing abyss
Of endless time without them here with me
But I’m learning I let go of my fear of the future
and let the love back in, you see
Chris’ love has never left me
And I still send kisses to my son on the wind
So how could God not love me
When I had them for my little infinity?

And this Depression that tries to suffocates me
Telling me that I am completely alone
It’s a lie,
I completely release it.
Because we have all been bruised
Isolated and hurt
And the beauty from these ashes
Is now
I understand grief
So I say to everyone who mourn
I am sorry for your loss
I love you and we will get through this
We are more than ephemeral, we are eternal spirits
And it is the darkness, not the love, that we have to let go.
