Sharing the Light: The Spirit of Giving at Divali Nagar 🪔
Divali, the Festival of Lights, celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Beyond the festivities, its true essence lies in generosity, compassion and kindness.
For more than twenty years, the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) has embraced these values through its annual Children’s Programme at Divali Nagar, welcoming children from homes across Trinidad and Tobago for a special day of happiness, cultural experiences and belonging.
From breakfast and thoughtful gifts to games, mehndi, face painting, arts and crafts, the morning is filled with excitement and laughter. Over the years, cultural presentations, tassa, Ramleela and performances by young talents such as Katelin Sultan and Sabri Seepersad have brought the celebration to life. Kes the Illusionist has also added moments of wonder and delight.
This meaningful programme is made possible through the kindness of volunteers, individuals and sponsors, including SM Jaleel and Company, HADCO Limited, Fineline Distributors, Diana Candy Co. Ltd., First Citizens, Rodney Dallah Enterprises, Kiss Baking Co., SM Group International, Holiday Snacks and A.S. Bryden & Sons (Trinidad) Limited.
More than an outing, the programme reminds us that giving is about far more than material gifts. It is about sharing joy, preserving dignity and ensuring that every child feels seen, valued and loved.
When the children return home, they carry memories of a day created especially for them. For when we share our light with others, together we make the world brighter.
