At Atelier Güve, we have been carrying out an extensive period of research and development to introduce photogravure into the range of techniques practiced in our printmaking studio.
Throughout this process, we produced dozens of test prints, repeatedly examining different materials, exposure times, chemical processes, and printing parameters. We established our own darkroom, adapted each stage of the process to our studio conditions, and refined the technique through every result we obtained.
The works shared here represent only a small part of this months-long period of research and production.
Photogravure requires not only technical precision, but also a careful understanding of material, time, and the printing process itself. For us, this journey was not simply about learning a new technique; it was about opening a new field of expression within our studio practice.
We are pleased with the results we have reached so far. Yet the research continues. We remain committed to further refining print quality, tonal range, and image detail, while continuing to explore the possibilities and limits of the process!
One of the most valuable outcomes of this journey has been developing, through time and practice, the technical and visual eye necessary to evaluate the process itself. Every mistake, every result, and every print has contributed to the development of that eye.
And now, as a printmaking studio in Istanbul, we are proud to open our doors to artists and makers who wish to work with photogravure!
Photogravure is now part of Atelier Güve’s printmaking practice!
With regards,
Atelier Güve
