Carlisle Pottery

Carlisle Pottery Yet you, Lord , are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8 NIV Its earth, water, air and fire.

My name is Kirk Carlisle and I operate Carlisle Pottery. I love pottery because it is a little bit of everything. It's science and it's art. There is building, there is painting. Careful plans and happy accidents. This art has been with human kind for almost as long as we have had fire and it is still beautiful, functional, and adds to our lives. That is what I love about pottery, and that is what

I hope to share with others. I'm blessed that this is my passion, and all sales generated will be donated to charity. It lets me give back and keeps my home from being overrun with mugs!

Last May our house got hit by a tree which put me out of commission for a bit! We are finally done with repairs, and all my pottery toys are back online again. These are a few pieces from my first post tree glaze run. Bonus pic of the crane removing our tree!

By repairing broken ceramics it’s possible to give a new lease of life to pottery that becomes even more refined thanks to its “scars”. The Japanese art of kintsugi teaches that broken objects are not something to hide but to display with pride.

I like pottery because each piece has a personality. Some of it is very detailed and accented, some is pretty plain and just does it's job. No piece is perfect though. I think as we go through the fires and trials of life, that while it all leaves a mark, it ultimately just adds to our character as a finished piece. When we are broken, God can fix us if we let him. What's better, a lot of time the scar left is a cool testimony you can show the world. When you feel like you've broken, think about kintsugi.
