Contemporary Istanbul returns for its 21st edition, welcoming more than 70 galleries from 24 countries to Tersane Istanbul between 23–27 September, 2026.

With Akbank as Main Partner, this year’s edition once again positions Istanbul as a key meeting point for the international art world, bringing together galleries, artists, collectors, curators and cultural professionals from around the world.

Presented with Tersane İstanbul as Cultural Destination Partner and BMW Türkiye, distributed by Borusan Otomotiv Türkiye, as Associate Partner, CI21 will feature leading galleries from four continents alongside a dynamic program of talks, public art projects and special events; creating new opportunities for cultural exchange and dialogue across the global contemporary art community.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐲 brings together the works of artists who participated in the 2025–2026 residency program at the Internationales Künstlerhaus Villa Concordia.

Presented at Anna Laudel from 5–28 June 2026, the exhibition explores artistic dialogue between Türkiye and Germany through a shared yet deeply individual framework. Featuring works by Ardan Özmenoğlu, Beate Passow, Cem Sonel, and Thomas Werner, alongside musical and performative contributions by Sinem Altan, the exhibition reflects on how distinct artistic voices can coexist, interact, and create new forms of collective expression.

Centered on themes of identity, memory, perception, and cultural exchange, Concordia Rhapsody highlights the richness of artistic encounters shaped by openness and mutual respect. Moving between painting, textile, installation, music, and performance, the exhibition reveals how individual perspectives can evolve into a broader narrative, offering a compelling reflection on art’s ability to connect people, places, and ideas across borders.

Ahmad Rafi’s solo exhibition 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 will be on view at Shiva Zahed Gallery from May 22 to July 5, 2026.

Bringing together a significant body of work produced over the past two decades, the exhibition revisits Rafi’s practice through the lens of visibility, representation, and the limits of the image.

Through veils, curtains, and obscured figures, Rafi challenges the expectation that painting must offer direct access to the visible world, instead treating seeing as a suspended and incomplete experience. In dialogue with Édouard Glissant’s concept of the “Right to Opacity,” the exhibition reflects on contemporary anxieties surrounding surveillance, exposure, and the pressure of constant visibility. Rather than resolving what is hidden, Rafi’s works insist on the power of ambiguity, inviting viewers into a space shaped by distance, concealment, and reflection.

Pi Artworks Istanbul presents Erdal Duman’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, 𝐈𝐟 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐰, on view through 20 June 2026.

Bringing together new works alongside pieces spanning more than a decade of the artist’s practice, the exhibition transforms the viewer from a passive observer into an active participant. At the center of the space stands a fragmented barricade composed of sculptural elements that visitors are invited to assemble collectively, allowing hidden texts to gradually emerge across the gallery walls throughout the exhibition.

Working with materials such as soil, flag fittings, and am******on forms, Duman explores the visual language of power, resistance, and solidarity, questioning a world where collective action and the ability to say “no” are increasingly disappearing.
