Simon Wachsmuth is part of the group show HÖLTZER’S PERSIA // UPDATE: IRAN at the University Museum of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, opening on Thursday, 17 September 2026, and running through 28 February 2027.

The exhibition brings together the photographic work of Ernst Höltzer (1835–1911) with contemporary artistic perspectives from Iran. Höltzer’s extensive photographic archive, documenting Persian and Armenian culture in the 19th century, is presented alongside works that reflect on photography, history, identity, and the ongoing geopolitical realities of the region.

Works by Ernst Höltzer are accompanied by works by Azadeh Akhlagi, Sonia Balassanian, Shadi Ghadirian, Tahmineh Monzavi, and, as guest artist, Simon Wachsmuth.

The exhibition is conceived and curated by Susanne Altmann and Dirk Schaal.

We are pleased to announce IChi Go’s performance Caryatid -人柱, taking place at Zilberman | Berlin on September 11, 2026, as part of our program for Berlin Art Week. The performance will be presented twice, at 4 pm and 6 pm.

Together with long-time dance partner Ryota Maeda and Evgeny Ganeev, IChi will present a new performance created in dialogue with Azade Köker’s exhibition Stolon. Building on ideas first explored at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao earlier this year, the performance engages with notions of support, unseen labor, and interconnected structures.

Köker’s use of paper and light materials also resonates throughout the performance, including in the paper footwear worn by the dancers.

The 20-minute performance is conceived as an open encounter, allowing visitors to enter and exit at any time.

BERLIN ART WEEK 2026

Azade Köker is part of the group exhibition “Kreuzberg: Art and Migration since 1960” at Gropius Bau, opening on September 9, 2026, from 7–10 pm.

Nowhere were the social and cultural changes of 1960s and 1970s West Germany more powerfully manifest than in Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighbourhood. The exhibition brings together works by artists who came to West Berlin to study, through scholarships, or for political, economic and family reasons. Their works explore migration and exile, racism, housing shortages, and the lived realities of so-called guest workers, while also telling stories of solidarity, resistance and empowerment.

Human and machine-like elements merge into a single bronze figure in Azade Köker’s 1987 sculpture Akkordarbeiterin (The Pieceworker). The title refers to a form of remuneration in which wages depend on the number of units produced on an assembly line. Under this scheme, female workers were paid a lower piece-rate than their male counterparts, earning less despite equal productivity. Köker’s sculpture depicts the female worker’s body as an extension of the industrial machinery, bound to its relentless pace. Yet through the figure’s defiant posture, the artist also evokes the women’s solidarity strikes of the 1970s, when migrant and non-migrant female workers joined forces to oppose discriminatory pay practices.

BERLIN ART WEEK 2026

We are delighted to announce Lucia Tallová: Moving Clouds at PalaisPopulaire in Berlin, celebrating Lucia Tallová as Deutsche Bank’s ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2026.

Since 2023, a figure from the global art world who changes every two years has been nominating artists for the bank’s award. After Stephanie Rosenthal, director of the Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi Project, this role is now being assumed by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, directors of the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin.

Lucia Tallová, born in Bratislava in 1985, works across the fields of painting, collage, assemblage, and sculpture. Her scenographic, often room-filling installations resemble surreal tableaux. They explore memory and ideology, art history, and the legacy of modernism, as well as climate and the vulnerabilities of a changing world. Tallová approaches these themes from a feminist perspective, tracing forgotten female histories. In doing so, she develops new forms of storytelling and archiving. Tallová works exclusively in analog media, such as paper and photography. Deutsche Bank’s 2026 “Artist of the Year” award honors her exploration of the fragility of memory in an accelerated, digitized present.

Opening: September 9, 2026, from 7–9 pm

Zilberman İstanbul, Fatoş İrwen’in Rû Bi Rû başlıklı kişisel sergisini duyurmaktan mutluluk duyar.

Rû Bi Rû, Fatoş İrwen’in iktidar temsilleri, devlet politikaları, gelenek ve inanç sistemleri karşısında bireyin özgürlük mücadelesi etrafında şekillenen pratiğini, yüzleşme düşüncesi üzerinden ele alıyor.

Zilberman Istanbul is pleased to announce Rû Bi Rû, a solo exhibition by Fatoş İrwen.

Rû Bi Rû approaches Fatoş İrwen’s practice, which centres on the individual’s struggle for freedom in the face of representations of power, state policies, tradition, and systems of belief, through the idea of confrontation.

The confrontation proposed by Rû Bi Rû is not limited to remembering the past; it requires not only facing what has been denied, but also standing before it and being exposed to its gaze. Fatoş İrwen’s engagement with realities that have been suppressed and rendered invisible, left unrecorded, and carried into the present through oral transmission forms the ground for this confrontation, while inviting the viewer into a space she constructs in her own language.

Coming soon: Azade Köker’s solo exhibition STOLON at Zilberman | Berlin
Opening: Saturday, 5 September 2026, 6–8:30 pm

In the first room of the exhibition stands the installation Schwankende Säulen (Tottering Columns, 2025–26), a forest of thirteen tall paper columns. The paper is wound around the columns like bark, and vertical folds suggest fluting. Transparent threads attach them to the ceiling, and they move with every breath of air. From the top of each column, a long strand of twisted paper falls to the ground and intertwines with the others to form a web. The column, for Azade Köker, is a double image, trunk and figure. For a long time already, she has explored the caryatid, the female figures bearing beams in architecture. Their burden there appears all elegance and posture; the effort of weight-bearing remains invisible. Köker’s columns support no roof. At the place where a capital would normally shoulder its weight, the strand of paper growing out of the column eludes it and, like a stolon, tries to render new life possible on the floor. With this image, nurturing takes its place alongside bearing as a bodily and social work, which, while essential, often goes unnoticed. The burden has not vanished, it has only changed its form. The bearing figure has become one tied in to its neighbors: a form which supports through its relationship to others, while these relationships also tie it down.
