What happens when AI enters the creative process?

For the first episode of MELISSA, I wanted to begin inside a studio.

At SUDIETUZ, with my dear friend Şansım Adalı, the question was not AI as a trend, or whether technology can produce more images.

It was what happens after the image when a digital possibility has to become fabric, weight, movement, touch and decision.

AI can multiply directions.
It can make options visible faster.

But the more images a process can generate, the more important the act of choosing becomes.

What stayed with me was the distance between the render and the garment.

Between what can be generated and what can be held.

A field note on AI, couture craftsmanship and the human decision behind making.

Yahşi Baraz and Beral Madra, two key figures in the formation of Turkey’s contemporary art landscape, join Avant D’art for a conversation.

Since the 1970s, Yahşi Baraz has played an influential role in the development of gallery culture, collecting and the art market in Turkey through Galeri Baraz. Art critic and curator Beral Madra has contributed to the intellectual and institutional foundations of contemporary art through art criticism, independent curatorial practice, international exhibitions and the early editions of the Istanbul Biennial.

Together, they examine the transformation of Turkey’s art scene from two distinct yet intersecting perspectives.

From the visibility of artists and the changing role of galleries to the evolution of curating, collecting and the art market, the conversation traces how contemporary art in Turkey has been shaped through personal initiatives, independent structures and international exchange.

For Mondtag, detail is part of the structure of the work.

A room, a colour, a surface, a costume, a sound or a small shift in light can change the entire logic of an image.

This is why detail does not function as something added at the end in Mondtag’s practice. It is one of the elements that determines how a world is constructed.

Mondtag speaks about deep form as something created through the precision of every detail. At this point, detail is not separate from the concept; it is the place where the concept becomes visible.

The psychological intensity of a scene often does not come from large narratives, but from the way colours, materials, surfaces, light and the body relate to one another.

In Ersan Mondtag’s world, form does not remain a general idea. It is built piece by piece, layer by layer, detail by detail.
