I studied Martin Parr throughout my photography education. For one of ’s classes, I even wrote an entire essay about a single Martin Parr photograph.
Years later, he walked into FiLBooks to photograph me for a publication titled “Markers of Istanbul”. It already felt unbelievable, and then—just before he released the shutter—he gently asked me to hold my first published book in my hands. In that moment, I really felt like a maker. And the moment I found my signing a copy for him, was just a dream coming true.
A couple of years later, he came back to FiLBooks, signed his books, and joined our street party—smiling, humble, generous, and fully present.
Years later, my husband literally fed him with Turkish Delight at Arles Book Fair to give a break from photobooks.
Martin, thank you for being such a kind and chilled man, and such a truly great photographer. The joy of photography and books that you spread across the world has inspired so many. Everybody learned something from you. That is rare.
With love and deepest respect.
