Imagine the bustling Roman villas of Zeugma, where skilled artisans meticulously crafted stunning floor mosaics, piece by tiny piece, to adorn grand homes.

The "Gypsy Girl," with her piercing eyes and wild, flowing hair, was one such masterpiece, believed to be part of a larger Dionysian scene. For centuries, she lay hidden beneath the earth, a silent witness to history, until her dramatic discovery and rescue from the rising waters of the Euphrates.

Today, at the Istanbul School of Mosaic, we continue this profound artistic legacy. Our artist, with the same dedication and precision as those ancient masters, brings this portrait to life. Each tessera, carefully selected and placed.

This week at Istanbul School of Mosaic we hosted some truly wonderful guests. 🥰

Joon travelled from Korea for a three‑day “Fundamentals of Mosaic” class and brought two ancient patterns to life with great care. 💯

Paquita joined us from Belgium to experience a Byzantine‑era design and make it her own.

Creating mosaics together adds a special layer to enjoying Istanbul – you don’t just visit the city, you leave with a piece of it that you made yourself.

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming these three wonderful women visiting from Sofia for a one–day mosaic workshop at our studio 🌿

In just a few hours they created their own mosaic pieces from scratch – choosing colours, cutting tiles and carefully placing every fragment. Each artwork reflects a different personality and style, and we loved watching their ideas come to life.

Thank you for bringing your beautiful energy to Istanbul School of Mosaic. We hope these mosaics will always remind you of your creative day in Istanbul and that we’ll see you again soon! ✨

From Colombia to our Slate Mosaics class! 🔆

Cristina let her inner geologist lead the way and designed her own composition. She blended slate with textured materials like smalti glass and marble.

We loved her fearless material play and the stories tucked into every tile.

She’s Australian and joined us for a one‑day mosaic workshop. Istanbul was her final stop, and on that last day she was feeling the travel fatigue :) but slowing down with art changed everything. 🙏

A few mindful hours of cutting, placing, and creating helped her recharge and leave with a handmade memory.
