Chestnut
Aydın is the leading city in Turkey in the number of chestnut trees and production of chestnut , and it is one of Aydın's geographically indicated products. The regions with the highest production are Nazilli, Köşk, Sultanhisar and Efeler districts.
Although Turkey uses a large part of its chestnut production in the confectionery industry, it also exports peeled and unpeeled chestnuts.
Harvested chestnuts are collected in the wells in the gardens and covered with ferns. Thus, the thorns called “kozak” around the chestnut are rotted. Then, the chestnut is separated from the thorns around it.
You can cook the chestnut on the barbecue, in the oven or boil it in a pot, depending on your preference.

Aphrodisias

Located in southwestern Turkey, in the upper valley of the Morsynus River, the site consists of two components: the archaeological site of Aphrodisias and the marble quarries northeast of the city. The temple of Aphrodite dates from the 3rd century BC and the city was built one century later. The wealth of Aphrodisias came from the marble quarries and the art produced by its sculptors. The city streets are arranged around several large civic structures, which include temples, a theatre, an agora and two bath complexes.

The excavated monuments of Aphrodisias and their associated sculptures and inscribed texts document the social history and visual culture of an ancient city in unusual detail. Aphrodisias sheds valuable light on larger issues such as the interaction between Greek and Roman identity, the functioning of empire, religious conflict and accommodation, and the transition from antiquity to the Middle Ages. It makes a major difference to our understanding of the ancient world.

Priene

Priene is an ancient Ionian city located in Güllübahçe Village, approximately 15 km away from Söke District. The city, which was known to be by the sea when it was founded, moved away from the sea by 16 km as a result of filling the sea with alluviums carried by the Büyük Menderes River.

The first establishment of Priene, one of the 12 Ionian cities including the ancient cities of Ephesus and Milet, dates back to the 8th century BC. After the first settlement was abandoned for unknown reasons, the city was rebuilt in its current location with a very steep land in the 4th century BC. Priene, which was under the protection of Lydians, Persians, Alexander the Great, Pergamon Kingdom, Romans and Eastern Romans, was completely abandoned in the 13th century AC.

Bias, one of the most famous scholars of Antiquity, lived in Priene in the 6th century BC. It is also said that Alexander the Great came to the city in 334 BC and gave financial support for the completion of the Temple of Athena, which is still under construction. Probably, the people of Priene were pleased for his support and built a house in honor of Alexander the Great. Today, we can only see the ruins of the building called the House of Alexander the Great.

In Priene, you can visit the ruins of the most important places of the Egyptian Gods Sacred Place, Bath and Gymnasion (Sports Complex), Ancient Theater, Agora (Bazaar), Asklepios Sacred Site, Bouleuterium (Council Building), Food Market, Athena Temple, Demeter Temple, the Acropolis (Upper Campus) and the Church.

Education Sarcophagus

There are figurative decorations on all four sides of the sarcophagus, which depict exemplary scenes from the home life and religious life of the family that owns the tomb.

There are three figures on the edge of the better preserved sarcophagus. Another woman (the caregiver) giving a naked baby boy to a woman (probably the mother) holding a kirmen in one hand and extending her other hand, and a man (probably the father) sitting in a high-back chair on the right. The male figure is holding a book roll in his hand and he is extending his hand towards the baby as in the first figure.
This scene is interpreted as the father's acceptance of his son.

Mount Latmos, also known as Beşparmak Mountains, is home to the Pistachio Pine Forests. You can admire it while walking on Mount Latmos. Between the Pine Pine Forests, you come across rock formations formed by the erosion of 500 million-year-old gneiss rocks. You can enter the caves formed in the huge rocks on Latmos Mountain and find yourself in a completely different atmosphere.
When you encounter pictures of people drawn by those who lived in Latmos centuries ago on some of the rocks, you feel like you are in a documentary. While examining the rock paintings, the question of how they were drawn in those years and the history of Mount Latmos come to mind. The rock paintings were discovered in 1994 by the German archaeologist Dr. Anneliese Peschlow.
It is estimated that the rock paintings on Mount Latmos date back 8000 years. The human figure is predominantly in the foreground in the rocks with more than 170 rock paintings. The rock paintings feature family depictions of people living in Latmos thousands of years ago and drawings of social activities.
There are paths dating back to before Christ on the Mount Latmos. Secret passages and roads were built to reach the places of worship of the people living in those times. In the Christian era, these holy paths were also used as pilgrimage routes. Ancient paths have survived to the present day.

Temple of Apollo

Today it is no longer possible to determine the exact date of construction of the Temple of Apollo in Didim. However, all historians agree that this happened in the 4th century BC. It was a grand building in all respects, which lasted several decades. It took about a year to produce only one column for the masters, and in total, there were 122 such columns in the temple.

White marble for the construction of the temple were mined on islands in the Aegean Sea. However, the works of thousands of people were destroyed in one day. After a series of earthquakes, the temple was destroyed, and today only two columns and ruins remain from it.

The ancient fountain, altar for sacrifices and sculptures of busts of gods, including the busts of Artemis, Apollo and Zeus, are also well preserved.
