An ode to my grandfather

Last week we said our goodbyes to my dear grandfather who passed away at 97 years old. Such a full life, almost a century on this earth, I had the feeling he would live on forever. Such a gentle person, living on the bright side of life, even in the most challenging of times. He believed in the goodness of people and love for life, the earth and each other.

His last gift to me was the support of my kiln, so I could embark on this new journey and follow my dream. He was always encouraging new ideas, open for reflection and exploring the unknown. Thanks to him I have been able to create my first ceramic collection and hopefully many more to come. Dankjewel lieve Opi, for believing in me and your spirit for life. You are truly an inspiration! 🌿

Happy to announce my first ceramic pieces are out in the world! ✨

Totally fresh I dived into the world of clay one and half a year ago, guided by the talented ceramist who has teached me everything about creating ceramics from scratch (thank you dear Irini for opening up this new experience and sharing your skills!)

After the first lesson I was totally hooked, as if I emerged myself in a new universe, where time and place didn't seem to exist. Many people working with clay have told me they share the same experience, the healing power of working with your hands so close to the medium, the mindful relaxation it creates and a deeper connection with your own body and mind. Something quite magical!

Sure there are many many challenges to face when working with a material that changes constantly and has it's own pace. The process of many steps and fases, the failures, the learnings, and oh the p a t i e n c e.... 😌 But all that is relatively easy to overcome when you can make the most exciting things with such a natural timeless material. The clay literally changed my being and I feel for the better ☺️

The joy and the excitement is real and I cannot wait to make and learn more. What you see here is only a fragment of all that I have made in the past year, and although I have still a lot of emotions presenting something so new and personal to you, I now feel encouraged to do so, feeling happy in my skin and showing you my true colours 🌱

I will shine a light on each of the pieces the coming days and show you more about the process. I have kept it all for myself up till now so I could explore in peace and silence. But now I am ready to share.

Inner compass 🧭

Back from my travels, at the easel this sailor appeared. His gaze inwards, reflecting, listening and feeling connected. Out there in the unknown feeling open, outward, experiencing the new. And when returning home it is as if the eyes see fresh, not only out there but also within. As if intuition is sharpened, revived and the soul knows its way. Where home is a new, yet familiar place.

I hope this make any sense ;) But travelling definitely makes one feel alive doesn't it? We've made a wonderful trip into the mountains, sleeping under the stars, visiting old stone paved towns, and sandy palm beaches. Feeling thankful and revived.

Unloading my first batch of ceramics from the kiln, very exciting things ahead.

But first this sailor, sea bound or home wards, he knows the way :)

The buzz of the cafe, the sound of dices and chatter, cups and saucers, the smell of coffee and lots of hands in motion. If anything, those guys like to talk with their hands 😉
