𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗶, 𝟭𝟮–𝟭𝟰 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 —The National Commission of Timor-Leste for UNESCO (KNTLU), through its Education Division, in collaboration with the National Directorate of Recurrent Education (DNER) – Ministry of Education, conducted a training programme for 𝟭𝟰 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀/𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 from Covalima, Bobonaro, Ermera, Liquiça, Manufahi, RAEOA, and Viqueque. The training was opened by the Director of DNER and attended by 𝗞𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗨 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗟𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗼 together with trainers and representatives from KNTLU and DNER.

The training held over three days, provided participants with knowledge and practical skills in literacy teaching methodologies, the use of the “Hakat ba Oin no iha Dalan” module, programme planning and evaluation, lesson plan development, and practical teaching sessions. Trainers Ms. Sebastiana and Ms. Fernanda facilitated the training to strengthen the capacity of literacy monitors/teachers.

The initiative reflects the continued commitment of KNTLU and DNER to strengthening education and literacy for all in Timor-Leste through capacity building and the promotion of greater learning opportunities for communities.

The training programme provided opportunities for young people and community members to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills through various courses, including Korean Language, English Language, Computer Skills, Traditional Tais Weaving, Financial Administration, and Basic Leadership .

Executive Secretary, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗟𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗼 congratulated the participants for their commitment and perseverance throughout the programme, encouraging graduates to continue developing their skills, apply their knowledge in daily life, and contribute positively to their families, communities, and the development of Timor-Leste.

With the theme "Empowering Youth through Skills, Inspiration, and Transformation" the ceremony highlighted the importance of education and skills development in preparing a competent, innovative, and resilient generation capable of contributing to the sustainable development of Timor-Leste.

On 3 August 2026, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Timor-Leste for UNESCO participated in the seminar “𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤: 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥, 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭” held at Auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL), organized by Instituto de Geociências de Timor-Leste (IGTL).

The Seminar was officially opened by His Excellency Francisco da Costa Monteiro, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, followed by presentations from experts representing government institutions, academia, and development partners on geosite conservation, geoscience research, and sustainable development.

As part of Mesa Redonda (Roundtable Discussion), the Executive Secretary joined fellow panelists to discuss “From the National Inventory of Geosites to the Creation of a Geopark in Timor-Leste: Challenges, Opportunities and Perspectives.” The discussion highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration, scientific research, and community engagement in supporting Timor-Leste’s pathway toward recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark. 🌏

The National Commission for UNESCO Timor-Leste, through the Culture Division Department, together with relevant stakeholders in the working team, conducted the First Online Consultation with experts, Mr. Daud and Ms. Karina, as part of the preparation process for the inclusion of a Cultural site of Timor-Leste into World Heritage Tentative List.

The consultation focused on reviewing the draft Tentative List form together with the experts, discussing key aspects of the site, and receiving valuable feedback and recommendations to strengthen the preparation process.

The consultation was also joined by Ms. Moe Shiba, Programme Specialist and Chief of Culture Unit at the UNESCO Regional Office, who contributed to the discussion and consultation process.

This consultation represents an important step in advancing the preparation of World Heritage Tentative List from Timor-Leste through collaboration, expert guidance, and knowledge exchange. 📜

(UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research Fellowships Programme)

The Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO invites qualified young researchers to apply for the UNESCO/Japan Young Researchers' Fellowship Programme 2026.

The fellowship supports research in UNESCO priority areas, including heritage conservation, artificial intelligence for sustainable development, and AI-related fields, with research activities conducted in Japan between February and December 2027.

Selected fellows will conduct their research in Japan between February and December 2027.

Applicants must:
• Be a national of an eligible UNESCO Member State.
• Be 40 years old or younger at the time of application.
• Hold at least a Master's degree in a relevant field.
• Demonstrate the required language proficiency.
• Have obtained acceptance from an academic supervisor at a Japanese university or research institution who will supervise the proposed research.

Applications must be submitted to the Timor-Leste National Commission for UNESCO at least one week before the UNESCO deadline (30 September 2026).

Government representatives, policymakers, academics, educators, civil society organizations, and international partners from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond have gathered in Dili for the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The conference provides a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and regional cooperation to advance sustainable peace and reconciliation. Through thematic discussions, expert panels, and knowledge-sharing sessions, participants are exploring the vital role of 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 in preserving historical memory, promoting transitional justice, strengthening peace education, and fostering inclusive and resilient societies for present and future generations.

The conference also reaffirms the shared commitment of governments and partners to promote dialogue, strengthen institutions, uphold human rights, and support collaborative efforts that contribute to lasting peace, social cohesion, and sustainable development across the region.
