สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ พระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงและกระเป๋าทรงถือทำจากกระจูดและหนัง
เมื่อสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนนีพันปีหลวงเสด็จพระราชดำเนินไปทรงเยี่ยมราษฎรในภาคใต้ ทอดพระเนตรเห็นเสื่อกระจูดที่ปูเป็นลาดพระบาท ตลอดจนสิ่งของที่ราษฎรนำมาทูลเกล้าฯ ถวาย จึงทรงทราบว่าราษฎรส่วนมากมีอาชีพสานเสื่อกระจูดเป็นส่วนใหญ่ มีทั้งเสื่อลายธรรมดาและลวดลายหลากสีสันสวยงาม พระองค์จึงทรงพระราชดำริให้ทำการอนุรักษ์เสื่อกระจูด ซึ่งเป็นหัตถศิลป์พื้นถิ่นของภาคใต้ โดยโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สอนวิธีสานกระจูดแก่ราษฎรผู้สนใจ และทรงแนะนำเรื่องลายและการสลับสีเพื่อให้สวยงามแปลกตาขึ้นด้วย

When Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother visited the people in Southern Thailand, she observed the Krajood (grey sedge) mats laid out as a ceremonial walkways, as well as the various handcrafted items presented to her by the local residents. Her Majesty realised that weaving Krajood mats was a primary occupation for many in the region. Some mats featured simple patterns; others displayed intricate designs and vibrant colours. Krajood is a precious element of Southern Thai craftsmanship. Recognising its cultural value, Her Majesty initiated a programme to preserve and revitalise this traditional craft.
Subsequently, Her Majesty established training programmes to enable local people to develop their Krajood weaving skills. She also provided personal guidance on the development of new patterns and colour combinations, encouraging the creation of more contemporary and distinctive products.
