รู้หรือไม่? Hänsel und Gretel มีต้นกำเนิดจากนิทานพื้นบ้านเยอรมันที่พี่น้องกริมม์รวบรวมและตีพิมพ์ครั้งแรกเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1812 นิทานต้นฉบับสะท้อนโลกยุโรปยุคอดอยากและยากจน เมื่อการเอาชีวิตรอดบีบให้ครอบครัวต้องตัดสินใจครั้งใหญ่ “ป่า” จึงกลายเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความกลัว การหลงทาง และการก้าวพ้นวัยเด็ก ขณะที่เศษขนมปังและบ้านขนมของแม่มด สื่อถึงความหวังอันหอมหวาน และความเปราะบางของมนุษย์ในเวลาเดียวกัน
ต่อมา Engelbert Humperdinck ได้เนรมิตนิทานโทนเข้มนี้ให้กลายเป็นโอเปร่าที่อบอุ่น เข้าถึงผู้ชมทุกวัย ด้วยดนตรีละมุน เต็มไปด้วยจินตนาการ แม้เรื่องราวจะอ่อนโยนขึ้น แต่แก่นแท้ยังคงชัดเจน การเติบโตของเด็ก ๆ ความกล้าหาญ สายใยครอบครัว และชัยชนะของความดีเหนือความชั่ว

Did you know? Hänsel and Gretel originates from a German folk tale collected by the Brothers Grimm and first published in 1812. The original story emerged from a time of famine and poverty in Europe, when survival often meant heartbreaking choices. In Grimm’s tale, the forest becomes a powerful symbol of fear, disorientation, and the journey from childhood to maturity. Breadcrumbs and the witch’s gingerbread house embody both hope and temptation revealing the fragile nature of human desire.
German composer Engelbert Humperdinck transformed this dark, realistic fairy tale into an opera that captivates audiences of all ages. By softening the narrative and enriching it with warm, lyrical, and imaginative music, he created a magical world on stage without losing the story’s soul.
