Chris Koster and I go back to when he performed at Tattoo Rock Parlour for INDIE WEEK some years ago. We have kept in touch over the years checking in from time to time.

Since then, he has toured much of the world with Canada’s The Glorious Sons, including opening for The Rolling Stones a number of times — one of which I was lucky enough to see just outside of Toronto.

Chris has since gone solo, and we have had him perform at our festival over the last couple of years. During that time, he connected with prolific writer/producer Justin Gray, and together they have released new music as HOW MANY COLORS.

From his showcase last year, Chris will now be performing at this year’s SUMMERFEST in Milwaukee — known as The World’s Largest Music Festival.

Chris continues to show his depth as an artist, musician, and writer. He is an artist’s artist.

I look forward to seeing him this weekend at SUMMERFEST.

I first met Siobhan Bodrug on Zoom during a term I was teaching online for Seneca during the COVID lockdown.

Even through a screen, there was something noticeable about Siobhan. Her energy came through right away, and I learned she was doing livestream performances at a time when artists were trying to find new ways to connect with people.

I asked her to do an interview and had the chance to learn more about her story, her work ethic, and her music. From there, we invited her to perform through INDIE WEEK and got to see her talent firsthand.

Fast forward to last year at our festival, where Siobhan performed an afternoon showcase and absolutely blew the roof off.

She did more than just showcase. She worked the room, connected with delegates and speakers, and made the most of the opportunity.

The results have followed.

Since then, Siobhan has received bookings at various shows in Ontario, was invited to festivals in Brazil, and this week she is performing at SUMMERFEST in Milwaukee — known as The World’s Largest Music Festival.

This is what I love seeing: artists who show up, do the work, build relationships, and turn opportunities into real career movement.

Big things are ahead for Siobhan Bodrug. She has a number of dates coming up, so catch her when you can.

Bangkok Music City (BMC) last week was excellent — the kind of event that feels busy in the best way: real conversations, real intent, and a lot of smart people building the ecosystem forward. Huge thanks to the organizers (Py, Top, David, Neil, Dom - LIVE NATION) and staff for pulling off a strong conference + showcase.

Some personal highlights:
Learning more about the Japan music market, the speed meetings where effective, meeting Christine Su in person (after years of messaging and industry talks online), reconnecting with former CD Baby colleague Keith Tan, seeing some really great acts (S.O.L.E, The Young Lion and Manic Monkee were standouts) — and probably the most surprising moment: when asked if I was Darryl Hurs from INDIE WEEK. Turns out Amil had played INDIE WEEK about 10 years ago with the Indonesian group Lightcraft.
You never know when you’ll run into people you’ve met along the way.

I made a ton of new contacts — now the follow-up work begins.
