เมื่อปี 2568 'สะอาด' ได้ถ่ายทอดพลังของประชาชนชาวเชียงรายที่จับมือกันทำงานหาทางออกจากความเสี่ยงให้กับขีวิต ออกมาเป็นภาพ "น้ำแห่งชีวิต" เมื่อครั้งนิทรรศการ "เขียนความหวัง" สัญจรมายังเชียงราย
เขาได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากการชุมนุมใหญ่ "หยุดเหมืองพิษ คืนชีวิตให้สายน้ำกก" ที่ผู้คนจากหลายชุมชน นักกิจกรรม ศิลปิน นักวิชาการ นักสื่อสารมวลชน ฯลฯ เดินขบวนข้ามน้ำกกไปยังศาลากลางจังหวัด ยื่นหนังสือเรียกร้องให้รัฐดำเนินการแก้ไขปัญหาสารพิษในแม่น้ำกก แม่น้ำสาย
ผ่านมา 1 ปีเต็ม ประชาชนรวมตัวกันเดินขบวนอีกครั้ง ครั้งนี้เริ่มจากต้นแม่น้ำกกในไทย เดินเท้าเป็นเวลาหลายวัน จนไปถึงศาลากลางจังหวัดเชียงรายเมื่อวันที่ 5 มิถุนายน 2569 เป็นการประท้วงในนาม "ธรรมยาตรา ปกป้องแม่น้ำกก - สาย - รวก - โขง - สาละวิน" ทวงถามความรับผิดชอบของรัฐบาล หลังจากประชาชนต้องเป็นฝ่ายสำรวจการปนเปื้อนสารพิษในแม่น้ำกันเอง และพบการสะสมเกินมาตรฐานในร่างกายประชาชนกลุ่มเปราะบางแล้ว ชีวิตของพวกเขาจำเป็นต้องพึ่งพิงแม่น้ำอย่างไม่อาจเลี่ยง
สาเหตุการปนเปื้อนสารพิษที่ประชาชนพบอย่างชัดเจนคือ การทำเหมืองตามสายน้ำในเขตประเทศเพื่อนบ้านจำนวนมาก เหมืองเหล่านี้ปล่อยสารเคมีลงสู่แหล่งน้ำอย่างไม่แยแสว่าจะเกิดผลกระทบใดๆ ต่อระบบนิเวศ ข้อค้นพบนี้กลับถูกรัฐเบี่ยงเบนประเด็นและละเลยการแก้ไข แล้วประชาชนจะไว้วางใจรัฐบาลได้อย่างไร? ชาวเชียงรายจะยังติดตามทวงถามความเป็นธรรมต่อไป และความไม่พอใจอาจลุกลาม ตามรอยสารเคมีที่ไหลไปกับสายน้ำความยาวนับพันกิโลเมตร ในเร็ววัน
Back in 2025, the artist 'Sa-ard' captured the collective effort of the people of Chiang Rai—who were forced to band together just to find a way out of a life-threatening crisis—in an artwork titled "Water of Life," showcased during the "Penning Hope" roving exhibition in Chiang Rai.
He was inspired by the major rally, "Stop Toxic Mining, Restore Life to the Kok River," where community members, activists, artists, academics, and journalists marched across the Kok River to the Provincial Hall. They were there to submit a petition, simply asking the state to take responsibility and address the toxic contamination in the Kok and Sai rivers.
A whole year has passed, and citizens have found themselves forced to march yet again. This time, starting from the source of the Kok River in Thailand, they trekked on foot for several days, arriving at the Chiang Rai Provincial Hall on June 5, 2026. Protesting under the banner of the "Dharma Yatra to Protect the Kok, Sai, Ruak, Mekong, and Salween Rivers," they are demanding accountability from a government that has left them hanging. The people had to conduct their own toxic contamination surveys, only to find that dangerous toxins have already accumulated past safe standards in the bodies of vulnerable groups—yet these people have no choice but to depend on these rivers for their survival.
The cause of the contamination is glaringly obvious to the public: numerous mining operations along the waterways in neighboring countries that dump chemicals into the water supplies, completely indifferent to the ecological devastation they cause. Yet, instead of resolving the crisis, the state has deflected the issue and ignored the crisis entirely. How can the public be expected to trust the government under these conditions?
The people of Chiang Rai will continue to demand justice, and their growing dissatisfaction is bound to spread, following the path of the toxic chemicals flowing through thousands of kilometers of these waterways.
