To our valued friends and theater community,
It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the postponement of our upcoming production of The Gin Game, originally scheduled for April 23–25 at the AUA Auditorium.

Due to an ongoing health challenge with glaucoma my doctor has told me that I need to step back and prioritize my health and vision immediately. As a result, I am unable to move forward with the performances as planned. This was a difficult decision to make, but it is necessary to ensure I can return to the stage at full strength.
We are currently working on securing new dates for later this year and will share those with you as soon as they are confirmed.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that The Gate Theater has reached its initial fundraising goal of $8,500! This incredible milestone ensures that our 19th season will proceed as planned.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every one of you who contributed to this success. Your generosity and belief in our mission to bring English-language theatre to Northern Thailand and connect Indiana with the world are deeply appreciated. Your support fuels our passion and makes our work possible as we now eagerly anticipate our ambitious 20th Anniversary Season.

The Gate Theater Group is accepting virtual auditions for
"The Exonerated".

Performance Dates: Scheduled for the last week of November, 2025.

Record a 60-90 second video of your conpemporary, dramatic monologue and send to [email protected]. In the subject line write Exonerated Audition. We will get back to you within 2 businessn days.

About the Play:
The Exonerated tells the powerful true stories of six wrongfully convicted death row inmates and their journeys to freedom. Through their own words, the play exposes the injustices of the American legal system and the resilience of the human spirit.

Character Descriptions (Age ranges are approximate):

• Delbert Tibbs: Male, African American, 30-60s. A writer and seminary student, articulate and passionate, who maintains his innocence and dignity throughout his ordeal.

• Sunny Jacobs: Female, Caucasian, 20-50s. A strong-willed and determined woman who fights for her life and her children's.

• Kerry Max Cook: Male, Caucasian, 20-50s. A complex and intense character who spends years on death row, grappling with despair and fighting for his sanity.

• David Keaton: Male, African American, 18-40s. The youngest of the exonerates, David is naive and vulnerable, struggling to understand the system that has failed him.

• Robert Earl Hayes: Male, African American, 40-60s. A Vietnam veteran, Robert is haunted by his past and deeply affected by his wrongful conviction.

• Georgia: Female, African American, 40-50s. A mother who is wrongfully convicted, Georgia is strong and resilient, fighting for her freedom and her children.

• Ensemble Roles: The play also includes several ensemble roles, including various ages, to portray lawyers, judges, prison officials, and other figures in the exonerates' lives. These roles may be played by actors of any ethnicity, unless specified.

The momentum for "Raise The Gate" has been incredible!
A huge thank you to the 50 amazing supporters who've donated and shared our campaign. Your generosity has already pushed us to 67% of our goal!

For those new to our community, The Gate Theater has been a cornerstone of Northern Thailand’s Chaing Mai arts scene for the past 18 years. In 2015 we expanded our vision by incorporating as a non-profit tax exempt organization in Gary Indiana, the home of The Gate Theater’s founder Stephan Turner. We are dedicated to bringing thought-provoking and engaging theatrical experiences to our audiences, showcasing both established and emerging talent.

As we look forward to our 19th season, we have some exciting plans in store! We're aiming to present a diverse lineup of productions, including documentary, comedy, and drama. We also plan to expand our community engagement through student matinee performances, workshops for aspiring actors, and post-show discussions with the cast and creative team.

Reaching our goal of $8,500 will be instrumental in making these plans a reality. We're so close – just $2,820 away from making our 19th season at The Gate Theater truly shine! Our Story

OUR MISSION

The Gate Theater Group is a nonprofit social organization operating as a membership-based club which is legally recognized in Thailand as a Group of People or Ordinary Partnership and whose mission is as follows: To contribute to the enrichment of Chiang Mai's cultural life through the production of English language theater within the greater Chiang Mai community. We accomplish this through the production and performance of plays and workshops that are relevant to a diverse segment of the local population.

Objectives supporting this mission are:

To produce approximately three productions per year, giving preference to one play by a Thai playwright or one that has been translated from Thai into English whenever feasible; to be recognized as a significant cultural asset by the local community; to develop and draw from local talent to the maximum extent possible; to enhance development of youth in the theater arts through cooperative ventures with local schools via workshops.
