ออร์เคสตรา, 2551, จักรวาล นิลธำรงค์: บันทึกสิ่งที่มองไม่เห็นและรำลึกถึงอดีต

ภาพยนตร์ Orchestra (2008) ได้รับการว่าจ้างจากหอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน เพื่อจัดแสดงในนิทรรศการ Invisible Hands ซึ่งนำเสนอแรงงานของผู้ปฏิบัติงานและช่างทอที่มักไม่ถูกมองเห็น เบื้องหลังความสำเร็จของบริษัทผ้าไหมไทยจิม ทอมป์สันในระดับสากล

จักรวาลได้รับเชิญให้บันทึกชีวิตของช่างฝีมืออาวุโส ณ แหล่งผลิตดั้งเดิมของบริษัทในอำเภอปักธงชัย จังหวัดนครราชสีมา ซึ่งเคยเป็นพื้นที่ของการทอผ้าไหมด้วยกี่มือขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งของโลก ก่อนที่อุตสาหกรรมจะค่อยๆ ลดลงภายหลังวิกฤตเศรษฐกิจในช่วงปลายทศวรรษ 2530 เขาติดตามช่างทอระดับครูจำนวนห้าคน ซึ่งทำงานกับบริษัทมานานกว่าสองทศวรรษ ด้วยวิธีการสังเกตอย่างเงียบสงบและละเอียดอ่อน ภาพที่ปรากฏไม่เพียงถ่ายทอดกระบวนการทอผ้าไหมที่ซับซ้อน หากยังเผยให้เห็นจังหวะของชีวิต ความทรงจำ และความคาดหวังที่ถักทออยู่ในแต่ละวัน
สำหรับจักรวาล โรงงานแห่งนี้เปรียบเสมือนวงออร์เคสตรา ที่ซึ่งเครื่องจักร เส้นไหม และมือของมนุษย์ ทำงานร่วมกันเป็นจังหวะเดียว เกิดเป็นความเคลื่อนไหวที่สะท้อนทั้งแรงงานและชีวิต

Orchestra, 2008. Jakrawal Nilthamrong: Filming the unseen, honoring the past

This short documentary was commissioned by the Jim Thompson Art Center as part of its exhibition, Invisible Hands, which highlights the often-unseen labor of workers and weavers behind the global success of the Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company. Jakrawal was invited to portray the lives of veteran artisans at the company’s historic production site in Pak Thong Chai, Nakhon Ratchasima, in Thailand’s northeast. Once home to the world’s largest handloom silk operation, the industry here faced steady decline after the economic crisis of the late 1990s.

Through quiet sensitivity and poetic observation, Nilthamrong follows five master weavers who have each worked with the company for over two decades. His lens captures not only the intricate choreography of silk-making but also the personal rituals, memories, and aspirations woven into each day. For Nilthamrong. the factory becomes a living orchestra—where machines, thread, and human hands perform a meditative symphony of labor and life.

Techno Craft (เทคโนคราฟต) หนึ่งในหัวข้อหลักของนิทรรศการ Living in an Elastic Time คือการตีความใหม่ของขนบงานคราฟต์ด้วยเทคโนโลยีร่วมสมัย ศิลปิน นักออกแบบ และสถาปนิกต่างผสานกระบวนการเทคโนโลยีเข้ากับเทคนิคดั้งเดิมและกระบวนการทางวิทยาศาสตร์ เพื่อสร้างรูปแบบลูกผสมที่สะท้อนทั้งนวัตกรรม การเปลี่ยนแปลง และการปรับตัวของวัสดุและภูมิปัญญาในโลกปัจจุบัน
เมื่อมองเข้าไปภายในและรอบพื้นที่เขาวงกตของ วิชญ์ พิมพ์กาญจนพงศ์ ผลงานของเขาย้อนกลับไปสำรวจประเพณี ความเชื่อ และองค์ความรู้ทางคติชน ผ่านศิลปะจัดวางและการทดลองทางวัสดุ ขณะเดียวกัน all(zone) สำรวจความเป็นไปได้ของพื้นที่และโครงสร้างของวัสดุในชีวิตประจำวันผสมกับความเชื่อท้องถิ่น ผลงานของกฤษณ์ เย็นสุดใจ ทำงานกับวัสดุชีวภาพ ขณะที่จารุพัชร อาชวะสมิต พัฒนานวัตกรรมสิ่งทอจากโลหะอุตสาหกรรม ต่างสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงการขยายขอบเขตของงานคราฟต์ไปสู่รูปแบบใหม่ร่วมสมัย

Techno Craft, one of the key themes of the exhibition Living in an Elastic Time, reinterprets craft traditions through contemporary technology. Artists, designers and architects integrate technological processes with traditional techniques and scientific methodologies to create hybrid forms that reflect innovation, transformation, and the evolving relationship between materials and knowledge in the contemporary world.

Looking into and around the Maze (Khao Wong Kod) by Wit Pimkanchanapong , his works revisit traditions, beliefs, and folkloric knowledge through installation art and material experimentation. At the same time, all(zone) explores the possibilities of space and structure, combining everyday materials with local beliefs. Kris Yensudchai works with biomaterials, while Jarupatcha Achavasmit develops textile innovations using industrial metals. Together, their practices reflect the expansion of craft beyond conventional boundaries into new contemporary forms.

This talk invites audiences to explore the relationship between technology, craftsmanship, and contemporary culture through the Artists, designers and architects’ perspectives and working processes. Their practices question the role of materials, labor, and traditional knowledge in the digital age, revealing that craft is no longer merely an object or artisanal skill, but also a space for experimentation, adaptation, and imagining new possibilities for materials. ทศกัณฑ์ชีวภาพ, 2559/2567, กฤษณ์ เย็นสุดใจ: วัสดุแห่งอนาคต

ผลงานทศกัณฑ์ชีวภาพ ทำจากวัสดุแบคทีเรียเซลลูโลส (Bacterial Cellulose) ที่ผลิตโดย Acetobacter xylinum มีโครงสร้างรูพรุนขนาดเล็กในระดับนาโน มีความสามารถในการดูดซับสารต่างๆ ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ โดยเฉพาะในด้านการย้อมสี ซึ่งสามารถดูดซับสีได้รวดเร็วและสม่ำเสมอมากกว่าเส้นใยธรรมชาติทั่วไป ด้วยคุณสมบัติดังกล่าวจึงมีความเหมาะสมในการนำมาทดลองและพัฒนาในงานออกแบบสิ่งทอ เพื่อศึกษาศักยภาพของวัสดุในกระบวนการย้อมสี รวมถึงการควบคุมเฉดสี ความสม่ำเสมอ และความคงทนของสีบนพื้นผิววัสดุ อันจะนำไปสู่การต่อยอดเชิงสร้างสรรค์
ผลงานเดิมถูกออกแบบให้เป็นสีขาว เนื่องจากมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสะท้อนและแสดงให้เห็นถึงสีตามธรรมชาติของวัสดุแบคทีเรียเซลลูโลส (Bacterial Cellulose) ที่ผลิตโดย Acetobacter xylinum อย่างแท้จริง โดยมุ่งเน้นการนำเสนอคุณลักษณะดั้งเดิมของวัสดุ ทั้งในด้านโครงสร้าง ผิวสัมผัส และความโปร่งแสง
แนวทางดังกล่าวสอดคล้องกับความเป็นศิลปะแห่งธรรมชาติ ซึ่งให้ความสำคัญกับการถ่ายทอดความงามจากธรรมชาติในรูปแบบที่เรียบง่ายและบริสุทธิ์ โดยไม่ผ่านการปรุงแต่งเพิ่มเติม เพื่อสื่อสารคุณค่าของวัสดุและกระบวนการที่เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติได้อย่างชัดเจนและตรงไปตรงมา

BIO RAWANA, 2016/2024, Kris Yensudchai: Material of the Futures
This work is made from Bacterial Cellulose, produced by Acetobacter xylinum. The material features a nanoscale porous, enabling it to effectively absorb various substances, especially in dyeing processes. Compared to the natural fibers, it can rapidly and evenly absorb colours. These qualities make it highly suitable for experimentation in textile, also material research and development, which allow for the study of its potential in dyeing processes, including the control of color in its purest form. This approach emphasizes the inherent qualities of bacterial cellulose produced by Acetobacter xylinum, highlighting its structural characteristics, surface texture, and translucency.
This direction aligns with a nature-oriented artistic approach that values the expression of natural beauty in its simplest and most unaltered form. By avoiding additional manipulation, the work communicates the intrinsic value of the material and its naturally occurring processes in a clear and direct manner.

เขาวงกต, 2568, วิชญ์ พิมพ์กาญจนพงศ์: การตีความขนบผ่านเขาวงกตมหาชาติ

วิชญ์ พิมพ์กาญจนพงศ์ ซึ่งมีพื้นฐานทั้งด้านสถาปัตยกรรมและศิลปะสื่อ สร้างสรรค์งานจัดวางที่ก้าวข้ามการเป็นเพียงประสบการณ์ทางสายตา ผลงานเขาวงกตของเขา ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในผลงานสำคัญในเทศกาลงานออกแบบเชียงใหม่ เป็นการตีความร่วมสมัยของขนบล้านนาเรื่อง “บุญพระเวส” หรือ “บุญมหาชาติ” ซึ่งเป็นประเพณีทางพุทธศาสนาที่หยั่งรากลึก หรือที่เรียกว่า “ฮีตเดือนสี่” อันตรงกับเดือนที่สี่ตามปฏิทินจันทรคติ และเป็นช่วงเวลาของการฟังเทศน์มหาชาติ
เทศน์มหาชาติถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวของพระโพธิสัตว์ในชาติสุดท้ายในฐานะพระเวสสันดร ก่อนการตรัสรู้เป็นพระพุทธเจ้า โดยมีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับการให้ทานและความเสียสละ โดยได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากความสำคัญทางจิตวิญญาณของวัดเจ็ดลิน จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ซึ่งเป็นวัดที่มีประวัติศาสตร์และความศรัทธา รวมถึงบริบททางวัฒนธรรมของเทศกาลมหาชาติ วิชญ์ได้เปลี่ยนพื้นที่วัดให้เป็นเขาวงกตที่ผู้ชมสามารถเข้าไปมีส่วนร่วมได้ โครงสร้างของงานประกอบด้วยรูปทรงโปร่งแสงสีสันสดใสคล้ายโคมไฟ ซึ่งถูกจัดวางเป็นเส้นทางที่ซับซ้อน

Maze (Khao Wong Kod), 2025 Wit Pimkanchanapong: Reimagining Tradition Through the Mahachat Maze
Trained as both an architect and media artist, Wit Pimkanchanapong creates captivating installations that transcend mere visual spectacle. His remarkable maze installation, a highlight at Chiang Mai Design Week, is a profound and contemporary reimagining of the rich Lanna tradition of “Boon Phra Wes” or “Boon Mahachat.” This deeply rooted Buddhist tradition, also known as “Heet Duan Si,” marks the fourth month of the lunar calendar, a period dedicated to listening to the extensive Mahachat sermon. This sermon recounts the inspiring narrative of the Bodhisattva's final earthly life as Phra Wessantara before his ultimate attainment of Buddhahood, a story replete with themes of generosity and sacrifice.
Inspired by the profound spiritual significance of Wat Chet Lin in Chiang Mai, a temple steeped in history and reverence, and the vibrant cultural depth of the Mahachat festival itself, Pimkanchanapong ingeniously transformed the temple grounds into an interactive labyrinth. This immersive experience is constructed from an array of vibrant, translucent lantern-like structures, carefully arranged to form intricate pathways. The maze actively invites participants to physically navigate its twists and turns, a deliberate and metaphorical mirroring of the arduous yet ultimately enlightening journey undertaken by Phra Wessantara. By translating such a deeply rooted and sacred Buddhist narrative into a modern, participatory experience, Pimkanchanapong bridges the gap between generations, blending local cultural traditions with cutting-edge contemporary design, thereby ensuring the continued relevance and vital transmission of these timeless Thai Buddhist stories to new audiences.

A Journey Through Lightness, 2026, all(zone)

วิชาตัวเบา คลี่คลายผ่านสถานที่และช่วงเวลาต่างๆ โดยติดตามพัฒนาการของโครงการ Mahod ตั้งแต่ Act Naturally (พ.ศ. 2554) ที่จิม ทอมป์สัน ฟาร์ม ไปจนถึง Marmalade Sky (พ.ศ. 2560) ที่ Wonderfruit และ MPavilion เมืองเมลเบิร์น และ Under a Common Sky, Sheltered to Gather (พ.ศ. 2567) ที่เซี่ยงไฮ้ ก่อนจะกลับสู่พื้นที่ฟาร์มอีกครั้งในปีเดียวกันในไซหนอน ภายใต้ผลงาน “ดัก” (Trapping the Flows) และปรากฏอีกครั้งที่ทางเข้างาน ช็องจู คราฟต์ เบียนนาเล พ.ศ. 2568
ผลงานนี้มิได้มุ่งไปสู่จุดสิ้นสุดที่ตายตัว หากเคลื่อนตัวอยู่ในสภาวะของการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างต่อเนื่อง โครงสร้างที่เบาและตอบสนองต่อแรงลมขยับไหวไปพร้อมกับสภาพแวดล้อม ราวกับหายใจไปกับพื้นที่โดยรอบ เงาที่ทอดลงบนพื้นค่อยๆ เปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามแสง ขณะที่สีสันและรูปทรงที่มีลักษณะเล่นสนุกคลี่คลายออกเป็นสภาพแวดล้อมที่โปร่งสว่างและเคลื่อนไหวอยู่ตลอดเวลา ตลอดระยะเวลากว่าทศวรรษ all(zone) ใช้พื้นที่จิม ทอมป์สัน ฟาร์มเป็นพื้นที่ทดลองอย่างต่อเนื่อง ซึ่งสถาปัตยกรรมค่อยๆ คลายตัวจากรูปทรงที่ตายตัวไปสู่การแสดงออกที่ยืดหยุ่น อาศัยวัสดุท้องถิ่น ภูมิทัศน์ และกาลเวลาเป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญ ที่ดำเนินไปอย่างต่อเนื่องและผ่านกระบวนการทำงานร่วมกันในระยะยาว

A Journey Through Lightness unfolds across sites and time, tracing the evolution of Mahod—from “Act Naturally” (2011) at Jim Thompson Farm to “Marmalade Sky “ (2017) at Wonderfruit and MPavilion in Melbourne, and “Under a Common Sky,” “Sheltered to Gather” (2024) in Shanghai. The project returns to the farm in 2024 as Sai Non in “Trapping the Flows,” before emerging again at the entrance of the Cheongju Craft Biennale 2025.
Rather than arriving at a fixed end, the work drifts in a state of becoming—light and wind-responsive yet resilient. It breathes with its surroundings, casting shifting shadows as colors and playful forms unfold into a luminous, ever-changing environment.
For over a decade, all(zone) has engaged the Jim Thompson Farm as a living ground for experimentation, where architecture softens into gesture, shaped by local materials, landscape, and time, gently unfolding through continuity, process, and sustained collaboration.
