The Industrialized Kinnaree
When Muya invited me to design a contemporary Thai Kinnaree, I revisited the knowledge and research I had explored during my years at Silpakorn University. Drawing from the identity and symbolism of the Kinnaree, I reinterpreted the mythical figure through the lens of Conceptual Fashion.
In an era where futuristic aesthetics have become increasingly accessible, I chose to combine the simplicity of contemporary Thai costume with minimalist design principles. By reducing and refining certain details, the silhouette becomes more contemporary while remaining approachable and relevant to modern audiences.
The wings and tail of the Kinnaree were developed as jewelry-like structures inspired by industrial design. At the same time, the essence of Thai artistry is preserved through two-dimensional interpretations of traditional kanok motifs, resembling sculptural and ornamental elements commonly found in Thai temple architecture.
This design was also influenced by the world of video games, where surrealism is often expressed through costume design, immersive environments, and electronic soundscapes. These influences became an important source of inspiration, shaping a vision of the Kinnaree that exists between Thai heritage, futurism, and imagination.
Ultimately, Q***r Coding serves as the element that completes this work. It redefines identity beyond the boundaries of gender and sexuality, creating space for self-expression, individuality, and beauty to exist freely, without limitation or constraint.
This nail set was inspired by the talons of an owl, my spirit animal and a symbol of wisdom.
What fascinates me most about owls is their uncanny presence, especially the way their facial structure bears an almost human resemblance. They seem to exist somewhere between the worlds of animals and humans, creating a sense of mystery that is both captivating and unsettling.
That feeling became the foundation for reinterpreting the owl through the shape, texture, and details of these nails.
Special thanks to Art Nails by WRY Nail for transforming this concept and imagination into a wearable ece of art.
