How do we imagine the future?

On 25 May, we celebrate the birthday of Nobuyoshi Araki, whose work often moves between intimacy, time, memory, and mortality. In "Future, 2015.11.14 – 2040.5.25", Araki altered the date setting on his camera to create photographs stamped with future dates—extending all the way to his 100th birthday.

Through a series of 35mm color positives, the future he imagines is strikingly ordinary: drifting clouds, city streets, passing encounters, and fleeting everyday moments. These quiet images invite us to notice the small details that shape a life over time.

On view in "(In)visible Presence" through 3 August at Dib Bangkok.

ดิบ บางกอก นำเสนอ “Reflection Series” โปรแกรมใหม่ล่าสุดที่จะให้ชวนผู้ชมค่อย ๆ ใช้เวลากับผลงานศิลปะหนึ่งชิ้นผ่านการมอง การสังเกต และการแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองร่วมกัน โดยในการจัดกิจกรรมครั้งแรกกับ Reflection Series EP. 1 นี้ ดร.มิว่าโกะ เทะสุกะ ผู้อำนวยการของ Dib Bangkok จะพาทุกท่านชมผลงานภาพถ่ายขาวดำอันทรงพลังอย่างเงียบงันของ Hiroshi Sugimoto จากซีรีส์ Theaters ซึ่งกำลังจัดแสดงอยู่บนชั้น 2 ของพิพิธภัณฑ์

ผู้เข้าร่วมจะได้ใช้เวลากับผลงานเพียงชิ้นเดียว เพื่อเรียนรู้การมองให้ช้าลง ลึกขึ้น และสัมผัสสิ่งที่อาจมองไม่เห็นในทันทีผ่านการฝึก “deep looking” หรือการมองอย่างใคร่ครวญ โดยกิจกรรมนี้จะค่อย ๆ เปิดทางไปสู่แนวคิดหลักของนิทรรศการ “(In)visible Presence” ซึ่งนำเสนอแนวคิดของสิ่งที่เรารับรู้ จดจำ และรู้สึกได้ นอกเหนือจากสิ่งที่มองเห็น

Join us for the first session of “Reflection Series” with Dib Bangkok Director Dr. Miwako Tezuka, centered around a quietly powerful work by Hiroshi Sugimoto from his Theaters series, currently on view on the museum’s 2nd floor.

Through a shared practice of “deep looking”, we invite audiences to spend time with a single work — learning how to look more closely, slow down, and experience what may not be immediately visible. Together, the session opens a path into the exhibition’s central idea of “(In)visible Presence” — what we sense, remember, and feel beyond what we see.

Visitors with exhibition tickets on the day are welcome to join the session free of charge.

On 11 May, we remember Surat Osathanugrah, whose photographs quietly observed the textures of everyday life in Bangkok—its streets, pauses, labor, play, and fleeting human moments that often pass unnoticed.

His love for photography carried forward a longstanding commitment to the arts—one that continues through generations, and remains part of the foundation of Dib Bangkok today.

Vanishing Bangkok (กรุงเทพฯ เลือนหาย) is on view in *(In)visible Presence* through 3 August.

วันที่ 6 พฤษภาคม เราร่วมเฉลิมฉลองวันเกิดของ เจมส์ เทอร์เรลล์ ศิลปินผู้เปลี่ยนวิธีที่เรารับรู้แสง พื้นที่ และการมองเห็น

On 6 May, we celebrate the birthday of James Turrell, whose work reshapes how we experience light, space, and perception.

At Dib Bangkok, Straight Up 1988 (realized in 2025)—part of Turrell’s Skyspace series and his first large-scale installation in Southeast Asia—opens a quiet space where the sky becomes part of the artwork. A circular aperture frames the sky as light and color slowly shift, making it appear at times closer, at others receding into infinity.

As dusk deepens, color, depth, and space begin to change—not only in the sky, but in what we see. Each moment is shaped by light, time, and the sensitivity of our own eyes.

Be present and let light slowly change your perspective.

ในผลงาน Willing To Be Vulnerable – Metalized Balloon V3 (2015/2019) ศิลปินชาวเกาหลี Lee Bul เปลี่ยนบอลลูนให้กลายเป็นประติมากรรมที่ชวนให้รู้สึกแปลกแยก

ผลงานทำจากอะลูมิเนียมฟอยล์และถูกแขวนลอยอยู่ในอากาศ พื้นผิวสะท้อนภาพเศษเสี้ยวของพื้นที่และผู้คนรอบตัว ขนาดที่ดูยิ่งใหญ่ แต่แฝงด้วยความเปราะบาง

In Willing To Be Vulnerable – Metalized Balloon V3 (2015/2019), Korean artist Lee Bul transforms a metallic balloon into a quietly disorienting sculpture.

Made of aluminum foil and suspended in space, its reflective surface captures fragments of the gallery and those moving through it. Monumental, yet fragile.

The universe feels a little closer.

วันที่ 25 เมษายน วันดาราศาสตร์สากล เราชวนมอง Pars pro Toto (2020) ผลงานของ Alicja Kwade ชื่อภาษาละตินที่หมายถึง “ส่วนหนึ่งแทนองค์รวม” ที่หินเพียงก้อนเดียวอาจเป็นตัวแทนของดาวเคราะห์ หรือแม้แต่จักรวาลอันกว้างใหญ่

ติดตั้งอยู่กลางคอร์ทยาร์ดของ ดิบ บางกอก ผลงานชิ้นนี้ประกอบด้วยทรงกลมหินธรรมชาติ 11 ก้อนจากหลากหลายพื้นที่ทั่วโลก แต่ละก้อนมีลักษณะทางธรณีวิทยาเฉพาะตัวและชั้นชั้นของกาลเวลา เมื่อจัดวางราวกับกาแล็กซีขนาดย่อม พวกมันชวนให้เรารู้สึกทั้งใหญ่โตและเล็กจ้อยไปพร้อมกันท่ามกลางจักรวาล

On 25 April, International Astronomy Day, we look to Alicja Kwade’s Pars pro Toto (2020)—Latin for “a part for the whole”—where a single stone can stand in for a planet, or even the wider universe.

Installed in the courtyard of Dib Bangkok, the work is composed of eleven natural stone spheres sourced from around the world, each marked by its own geological character and layers of time. Arranged like a miniature galaxy, they shift our sense of scale—making us feel both giant and small within the cosmos.

Kwade’s work also reminds us that Earth itself is a moving body, a flying, rotating stone shaped over billions of years.

The unreachable becomes something close enough to encounter.
