𝗧𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧! – Pathorn Srikaranonda Quartet
Pathorn Srikaranonda returns to Smalls leading a quartet that brings together four musicians with deep connections to Thailand’s jazz scene, from international performance and recording projects to university-level music education.
Pathorn is a Thai saxophonist, composer and educator whose career has taken him to concert halls and festivals in more than 30 countries. For more than three decades, he performed with the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Au-Sau Friday Band, one of the most important institutions in the history of jazz in Thailand. His international collaborations have included musicians such as Benny Carter, Jimmy Heath and David Liebman, as well as artists from the New Orleans jazz tradition.
He studied composition and saxophone performance at the University of Michigan, continued his composition studies at Yale University, and earned his doctorate in Music Composition from the University of Edinburgh. Alongside his work as a performer and composer, Pathorn has played a major role in jazz and saxophone education in Thailand. He is the founding president of the Saxophone Association Thailand and currently serves as Director of Jazz at MUSE [X] Academy.

🎹 Roykhien Wanglert – Piano
Roykhien Wanglert began classical piano at five and moved into jazz while still a child. He won the Thailand International Jazz Conference Junior Division in 2014 and received the Outstanding Pianist Award at the Thailand Jazz Competition in 2018. His international competition experience includes second place in a jazz piano competition at West Virginia University and reaching the semifinals of the UNISA International Piano Competition in 2020.
🎻 Tanarat Chaichana – Bass
Dr. Tanarat Chaichana is a bassist, composer and bandleader who serves as Chair of the Jazz Department at the College of Music, Mahidol University. He studied at Silpakorn University before earning a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans and a PhD from Victoria University of Wellington. During nearly five years in the United States, he worked with musicians including Mulgrew Miller, Randy Brecker, Lew Soloff, David Liebman, Ellis Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jason Marsalis and Herlin Riley.
🥁 Pruettiron Nanthawowat – Drums
Pruettiron Nanthawowat is a Bangkok drummer, educator and longtime collaborator of Pathorn Srikaranonda. He played drums on the 2013 recording of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s “Echo,” a Thailand-Denmark collaboration involving Pathorn, Prince Consort Henrik and Jascha Richter of Michael Learns to Rock. His work with Pathorn also extends into composition and research, including the collaborative Thai Boxing Overture for Brass Band, and he currently teaches on the jazz faculty at MUSE [X] Academy.
