Bangkok's International Festival of Dance & Music began in 1999 to commemorate the 6th cycle birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra was the Honorary Chairperson and then from 2004 until Her demise was its Royal Patron. This annual festival is spread over five to six weeks between September and October. It is the largest and the only annual event in Thailand which gets such substantial and sustained publicity.

เริ่มต้นด้วยความรักอันแสบอบอุ่นในกรุงปารีสของศิลปินยากจนและหญิงสาวช่างทำดอกไม้ประดิษฐ์ประดับหมวก แต่สุดท้ายก็จบลงด้วยความเศร้าเมื่อนางเอกป่วยหนักและเสียชีวิต

อันดับที่ 2 ทอสกา (Tosca) แสดงมากที่สุด 5 ครั้ง จาก 4 คณะโอเปรา
ทอสกา นักร้องสาวที่ยอมแลกตัวเธอเพื่อช่วยชีวิตคนรักจากการจับกุมของหัวหน้าตำรวจ แต่สุดท้ายทอสก้าถูกตำรวจทรยศ เรื่องราวจบลงด้วยการฆาตกรรม-โศกนาฏกรรมบนปราสาท

อันดับที่ 3 มาดาม บัตเตอร์ฟลาย (Madama Butterfly) แสดงมากที่สุด 4 ครั้ง จาก 4 คณะโอเปรา
เรื่องราวของเกอิชาชาวญี่ปุ่นที่ได้แต่งงานกับนายทหารชาวอเมริกัน แต่แล้วเกอิชาผู้นี้ต้องรอคอยและได้ทราบความจริงที่ว่า นายทหารมีภรรยาอยู่แล้ว เธอจึงเลือกที่จะปลิดชีพตัวเอง

Harry Styles talks about his relationship with running and how it makes him feel on The Bru Show.

“I think the relationship between that almost spiritual aspect that music can have, when you're dancing and you get into this meditative place, I think there is a lot of synergy there between how you can feel when you're running sometimes. And I think all of that stuff like feeds each other. For me, I learned a lot about what allowed me to like go to places that don't feel like 'oh, I'm really just in the music right now.' And that's the kind of thing that makes running more enjoyable.

I think that the relationship between the meditative aspect that music can have and the meditative aspect that running can sometimes have, it was like, weirdly made a lot of sense to me that those two things happened at the same time. I think just feeling clear and present and doing one thing at a time and just being in it was the goal of both.”

Our Story

The Festival was established in the year 1999, commemorating His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 6th cycle birthday. From just having 6 performances and 200 artists, the Festival has now grown in the scale where over 20 performances with more than a thousand artists are taken to the stage over a 5-6 week period.

Now, in its 22nd year running, organizing one of the most highly profiled and prestigious performing arts festival, we are proud to continue to raise awareness and appreciation of the world of arts. As the Festival showcases traditionally classical ballets, symphony orchestras, and folk traditions, the Festival also features modern dance & music like contemporary pop and Broadway musicals to present an eclectic programme for all.

Through the years, the Festival has attracted an audience of millions of people. With the reputation that it has gained, we hope to attract local attendees and encourage tourism in Bangkok during the festival time. By inviting international, world-class talents to perform in Bangkok, we hope to build stronger international relations for Thailand, create a more positive image of Bangkok and pursue in putting the city on the map to be the ultimate destination for arts and culture.

In celebrating two decades of such a prosperous event, the Festival is truly thankful for the loyal support from many sponsors, patrons and friends alike, for its on-going success. It has become recognized as one of the most outstanding performing arts events in Asia and a landmark in Bangkok and Thailand’s cultural calendar.
