Join us at Smalls on SUNDAY 5TH APRIL, for a one-of-a-kind experience that will take you on a journey of raw emotion and creativity.

We present to you a unique spoken word poetry and live improvised music event. Join us for an unforgettable evening of artistic expression, as some of Bangkok’s most talented spoken word poets take the stage to share their powerful, thought-provoking pieces.

As each poet weaves their story, the accompanying live, fully improvised music from the Kinetic Poetic Kollective Band will create a soundtrack to the poetry. From cinematic to rock, funk to hip hop, jazz to ambient experimental and everything in between, the musicians deliver live improvised music as diverse as the poets they are accompanying.

And with each musical performance being unique and unrehearsed, no two shows will ever be the same.

This dynamic and immersive experience will leave you breathless, feeling both moved and inspired.

TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! KINETIC POETIC TOKYO!!
Promising another level of Kinetic Poetic’s unique fusion of poetry & improvised music, Kinetic Poetic Tokyo Edition will manifest the fusion of the traditional & the modern, crossing cultures, languages & genres in an never to be repeated collaboration of words & improvised music.
Words draw the map, sounds begin to walk on it.
That moment when spoken word and improvised music meet. The boundaries between recitation and accompaniment are dissolved, and voice and sound are transformed into dialogue.
This is a once-only time that cannot be replicated.
The vibrations of Noh, flute, trumpet, percussion instrument, and guitar respond to the poet’s thoughts, body, and breath, and words rise up in space.

A night where cultural and language differences transcend, and expressions that only exist in this place are revealed.

“Man With The Gasoline Can” by Rory Breaker-Morant (live at Bangkok Design Week 2025)
In this spoken-word performance titled “Man With The Gasoline Can,” Rory Brekaer-Morant utilizes a dystopian narrative to critique the modern era’s toxic political discourse. Set in a future reflecting on our current Information Age, the poem portrays a society destroyed by broken communication, extreme division, and the erosion of human empathy. Central to the work is the figure of the man with the gasoline can, an individual consumed by resentment and conspiracy who physically embodies the volatile rage of a polarized world. As he journeys through a barren wasteland of historical ruins and human casualties, his internal anger eventually manifests as an all-consuming fire. Ultimately, the source serves as a stark warning about how weaponized hatred and self-righteousness can lead to the total annihilation of civilization.

Moving beyond the relationship of “reading” and “accompaniment,” Kinetic Poetic creates a live session in which words and sound react, intersect, and transform each other.
Crossing genres, languages, and cultural backgrounds, each performance exists only once, in that precise moment.
